Title: What a waste of time! Post by Jonny on Jun 21st, 2007, 8:22pm Just clicking my mouse would have got me there in half the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy9dRkCzRRQ Is anybody up in this family using this voice thingy? Looks like more work to me than just clicking,,,,and what if your shitfaced?.....will it know you?.....LMMFAO [smiley=laugh.gif] What say you on this one....you diggin it or not? Seems to me that it would take a shit load of time just to know your voice pattern....and then you could never have a radio or tv going in the back ground. I say, no....I wouldnt waste my time with it 8) |

Title: Re: What a waste of time! Post by Redd on Jun 21st, 2007, 9:11pm I wouldn't need it either, but would come in useful for a quadroplegic, or someone with cerebral palsey. |

Title: Re: What a waste of time! Post by john_d on Jun 21st, 2007, 9:23pm Voice user interfaces like that have proven to have a two fatal flaws. 1) Users don't want other people to hear what they are doing 2) Other people don't want to hear what the users are doing. In a nutshell, they are too damn noisey. |

Title: Re: What a waste of time! Post by Kirk on Jun 22nd, 2007, 1:15am I found Dragon Naturally Speaking to be real handy when I spent all that time in the ICU and the rehab unit awhile back. But I haven't found any use for it since then. [smiley=smokin.gif] |

Title: Re: What a waste of time! Post by DennisM1045 on Jun 22nd, 2007, 6:34am A while back I nearly cut the little finger off my left hand with a skill saw (apparently I didn’t have the necessary skill! :o). Anyway, I got real good with Dragon Naturally Speaking. With carpel tunnel syndrome beginning to set in I figured this would be a good thing to stick with. But after 3 months the finger healed and I got away from it. Some things I found lacking: 1) it does bother people in the next office. While my office mates were very understanding at the time, I know they are glad I got away from it too. 2) your thoughts and posts are no longer private 3) typing is still faster 4) I’m a programmer by trade and it doesn’t work well with programming languages 5) The application is a real memory hog using up close to 1G of my 2G memory 6) I use a lot of different computer systems and it is only installed on my laptop I guess we are still waiting for a user input device that is better than a mouse and a QWERTY keyboard and it isn’t the human voice. -Dennis- |

Title: Re: What a waste of time! Post by aprilbee on Jun 22nd, 2007, 12:27pm My aunt has been a Quadriplegic for over 20 years from a car accident and she uses her mouth and a long stick and is on the computer ALL day long, i think she would really benefit from something like this, even though she is very used to the stick....it would save her neck a lot of cricks and aches....its a wonderful tool if you don't have the use of your hands or feet....I am totally for it! and it would not be a waste of time....for my aunt anyway... ;) me yes....not her. |

Not even a computer program would want to read your mind Bill. As much as I like you, I think that would be scary territory. :) |

You see, every once in awhile I have evil thoughts about even my computer. I would tell it to fuck off, then it would start telling me to fuck off, then I'd tell it to fuck off back, and then the whole thing really would become a grand waste of time. ;;D |
