Title: HE FINALLY ASKED ME TO MARRY HIM!
Post by clusterwife on Jun 21st, 2007, 12:20pm
Yep, the last thing I thought I'd ever him say.  I said yes, and now I'm planning everything.  Any computer sites and advice would be appreciated, esp. the women's advice.  This is his first marriage and my second.  Thanks, Leah.

Yet you call yourself "clusterwife." I must admit, I'm confused.

Be that as it may, congratulations! When we planned our wedding, there was no such thing as a website. My advice - if anybody other than the two of you might be financing your wedding, offer to take 50 cents on the dollar in cash of what they were going to spend and elope. I think your stomach lining will thank you.

We are common-law married, just not offically. We went from girlfriend-boyfriend to legally married by me living here for 5 years. My name appears on documents as married. I still use my maiden last name.  Now I get a pretty ring and wedding pictures. Thanks for the info. I didn't mean to confuse.

I have a suggestion! go to the Justice of the Peace!  no wedding, it saves a lot of headache  ;)  and you can spend more on the honeymoon!   ;;D

but whatever you do, Congrats!!  I truly wish you a happy marriage...BTW, it took 7 years for my husband to finally ask me to marry him....how long did it take your fiance?

so happy for you sweetie!

April

Congratulations!!!! I guess you guys are just making it official.

Advise?  if you have a budget stick with it, don't regret it later. Make a wedding that will make YOU happy not your guests.

Kimmie has being planning hers for a while she can give you a little more updated advise  ;)

Luckily, kevin's mom will pay for the honeymoon in Cancun.  His father will pay for the wedding, so we have to plan everything else. Being that this is his first wedding, he insists on the whole preacher thing.  I like the flowers and all too.  Does he realize the planning involved?  I think so....

Spend more time and energy on BEING married than on getting married.

Having a day to call an anniversary is nice, but it's the day-to-day living that's GREAT (we're celebrating 25 years in October).

BTW, I had to ask brew to marry me and the first time he said no!!

Congrats on the upcoming 25 - I'll bet he thanks his lucky stars every day that you gave him another chance.

Brew - what were you thinkin' - telling that nice girl "no".  ;;D

I'm going to plead idiocy and youthful inexperience. I was 19 at the time.

A year later I knew. ;;D

He was 20 and "getting the milk without buying the cow" as it were . . . .  :o

He did come around eventually.

At our reception my mom gave a toast that mentioned of all the people in this room, ONLY BREW didn't know we were eventually getting married . . .everyone but him saw it coming!

Bill,

If you had let Pat get away, I would have been kicking your butt for the last 25 years!!! [smiley=laugh.gif]

Congrats!!  If you two are half as happy as we have been you will be doing well.  August makes 30yrs for us.  Hard to believe it, but it will go as fast for you as well.  The very best to you both!

Leah CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its wonderful and I hope you have a beautiful wedding day :)

my 2cents:   don't do the justice of the peace. Darryl and I did (he insisted- as he does with everything!) and I guess I'll always be disappointed. Make it beautiful for yourselves, not a show for your guests and you'll have memories for  a lifetime.

Thanks everybody!  Lelimey, I've tried to outrun him and his "beast" for 5 years this month as his girlfriend, I've earned my half, thank you very much.   Just jokin'.  Besides, the great ole state of texas has us "married" already.  His land comes with my name on the taxes, and so does the house.  I'm not with him for the stuff, eventhough having my own Harley would be a nice addition.  Where are the best places to go in Cancun?  I want to try parasailing.  Leah.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!  I don't give a rammy-tam whether yoy've been living together for decades or two days.  A wedding is now in the planning stage.

My daughter, who btw, has been living with her signifcant other for 3 years, will be getting married in September,  She hooked on to a site www.theknot.com.  This site has lots of great info, budgeting, guest lists, etc.  Check it out.

Cancun:  Been there twice, once in Cancun, once in Playa Del Carmen.  I don't know your age, so I'll give a short rundown of both areas.

You can parasail in either area (I did it in Playa).

Cancun: Younger crowd. Party city, nightlife, bars, noisy, shopping, beaches are on the small side, narrow but lovely. I had a ball there. In one word, Excitement.

Playa, Quieter, bars, shopping to die for, beaches much wider and gorgeous. More international guests than Americans.  In one word, Relaxing. (and, btw, female guests can go topless on the beaches) for whatever that's worth.

Both areas provide excursions to the ruins, snorkeling (which I highly recommend). and everything that the area has to offer.

Just depends on whether you want to party downtown, or relax on the sand.  I would take both again, and again, and again.

Sandy

I know it's usually the kids' responsibility to throw the 25th anniversary party, but since I'm lazy, they're getting something like a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. I'm such a little demon, I know.

Bet I'll have to pay for the gift certificate, too!
