Title: Cats!!!!!
Post by BarbaraD on Jun 14th, 2007, 2:14pm
I've become the proud owner(?) of TWO cats! I need some "mousers" out here in the country and mentioned it at the beauty shop (and yes I DO go to the beauty shop occasionally). Well, seemed the owner had TWO black kittens she needed to dispose of yesterday, so I brought them home with me.

Can't really tell them apart except one has blue eyes and one has green. Now Homer (my 70 pound mutt) thinks they're cute and wants to play. The kittens (tentatively named Moe and Joe till Caleb tells me differently) want no part of Homer and hiss at him. Of  course this hurts poor little Homer's feelings and he's been whinning about it. He just can't understand why they don't love him.

I've never had cats (only dogs) and don't really know what to do with them. I explained that the dogs have been here a while and that they LIKE cats and won't hurt them - just get along. But the cats like to hiss and act snoddy.  I also explained to them that the house if OFF LIMITS - they are OUTSIDE cats and that the mice should be caught outside before they get close to the house. They went to sleep while I was explaining.  :-/

Well, they're young (5 weeks) - maybe it'll take some more explaining before they'll catch on.  [smiley=huh.gif]

Caleb is excited - he wanted some cats, so now we have cats. He also wants goats -- hope the lady at the beauty shop doesn't have one of those ::)

Hugs BD

You don't have cats...

They have you.

Helen I'm sorry. My son broke my camera and I just haven't gotten it fixed. Picture this -- TWO BLACK CATS. One with blue eyes and one with green eyes. That's about it. When they hiss, they look like any other witch's cat -- all their fur stands up straight.

And Fu - I've heard that cats LET us humans inhabit their space when it pleases them.

I just gave them their afternoon snack = they came out from under the grill and acknowledged me and dismissed me and I came back in the house. Guess that was my visitation for the afternoon.  :)

Hugs BD

No dont wait for them to get older cause then they are tough. Need to eat them while they are young. Marinate them in your favorite sauce then grill to perfection. Nothing like southern fried kitty cat, Yummy!

Now what is worse? The French eating snails and frog legs or two Americans devouring pets stolen in the neighbourhood?

Callico and medic1852, don't you think it's a sign of a disturbed mindset if you get your kicks out of sick jokes about what others cherish most?

Remember, this board is about cluster headaches, not trampling on the feelings of others with your perverse "sense of humour".

Ueli,  I know you are a cat lover and so are a lot of us but I don't think anyone meant anything sinister, nor did they mean to trample of the feelings of any cat lovers.   Honest.

12.6 posts/year on average since you been here.  That's 1 post per month average.

I'm not fond of cat hate posts myself, in fact I love cats and revere them, but I can make the choice to ignore the clearly cat hater posts.  Might be a good idea that you do too.

Ok It's Ueli...I'll STFU now......... ;;D

I had a few cats growing up and I like them.  They take care of their self.  No need to walk them at 3 a.m.  But Brian hates cats, so I will never have one again....now I'm working on him to get me a puppy for our first married Christmas together, but he's having no part in it....so far...ha ha!  Maybe that will change.

Good luck with the mice catchers, BD!

Cats are welcome in my back yard. Lots of them this year and they keep things pretty quiet for me.  They make me sneeze though.

Handly little creatures.

Basically, you need to skin them before marinating.  Cat fur in your teeth is gross (and I am a cat lover!  have 7 of the little buggers right now with 6 of them staying mostly inside).

Can't move my office chair right now, because BB (short for bitchybaby) is laying flat of her back, purring her little heart out, between the legs of my chair.  I go to bed at night with Graybaby either above my pillow (between the headboard and my pillow) or beside me, BB is curled in the space behind my knees (or behind Jimbos' knees) and Cali is asleep on the other side of my legs.

Not to worry BD. After awhile they'll be right on top of your mouse problem.

Of course you skin them. Where esle are you going to get fur to wear. Besides eating cat hair causes hair balls which as cat owners know is a bad thing.

I have a HUGE at least 20 lb grey tabby. He is 14 years old. A volinteer kitty. He just showed up. Came through my bedroom window one night and has been here since. Loved to bring me half eaten mice, bird beaks and feathers, even a huge hole mole!! All left in my bedroom where I could apreciate his bring the food home for me! I learned to put my screen over my window. Hated to cause I wanted him to be able to come in the house if he wanted too. Anyway, we have 5 pomerainian dogs, from 3 to 6 lbs, they don't begin to add up to my kitty. But he is there kitty now. They try to groom him all the time. He takes it all in stride then jumps up on something when he is tired of them. I love both cats and dogs. We have a ferrit too! She is crazy fun to watch. The cat is afrad of her and the dogs love to play with her. Love animals, they are so much easier than kids!! My spelling sucks! Happy hunting kittys. Love Paula

Cat Meat

So much has been written about cat meat with red wine that it is difficult to say anything new on the subject, but we shall try with this sentiment: it isn't the color that counts. Sure, cat meat, especially a cut cooked on the rare side, is a good match for an elegant red wine that is velvety and smooth yet finishes with firm tannins. But not all red wines are suited to cat meat (if you disagree, try a grilled steak, rare, with Chianti, or read our fish, poultry and vegetable pages).

In our opinion, the best red wines for a fine steak are those produced from the classic Bordeaux grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and a few lesser-known varieties. In Argentina, where beef is king, Malbec is often the preferred wine.

But add black pepper to the steak, as in steak au poivre, and you have a completely different situation. Steak prepared with pepper or any other hot spice needs an equally peppery wine like Shiraz/Syrah or Mouvedre, or a blend of the two. The same can be said for lamb dishes except in this case it is not heat that cries out for a peppery wine--it is the gamey flavor of the lamb.

In Burgundy, beef and the mighty Pinot Noir marry, but in the New World many Pinot Noirs are lighter and fruitier than their French counterparts. For that reason, many lamb eaters prefer New World Pinot Noir. Light and Fruity sometimes make a fine contrasting accompaniment to the intensity of lamb. But a lot of lamb preparations include sweetened mint jelly. If overdone, the sweet flavor of the mint jelly gets in the way of most red wines. Next time you have lamb, try a garnish of fresh mint leaves -- and hold the mint jelly.

If there are times when white wine goes perfectly with cat meat they are the rarest of moments. Although we once met a woman who claimed to drink only white wine, and only Riesling at that--even with a fine Filet Mignon--proving that while some make rules most taste is subjective.

Rodger ::)
