Title: Regina, Saskatchewan Post by Miklos on Jun 8th, 2007, 8:48pm I will be teaching in Regina (damned odd way to pronounce it though) the week of June 28th. Any CH people in the area? While I have traveled a lot, I've never been to Canada. I have been advised that I need to go to a Horton's and to try poutine. I shall do so although it seems awfully odd to pour gravy on cottage cheese. Whatever. Let me know. |

You absolutely must have a Timmy's coffee. It's the very best there is (ask any Canadian!). I know we have some members in that part of the country - but not sure how close they are to where you're going to be. I'm sure they'll be along to let you know. Enjoy your trip. Carol |

Title: Re: Regina, Saskatchewan Post by Margi on Jun 11th, 2007, 11:28am Ok, first of all - you won't get poutine at a Timmy's...they only do coffee, donuts, great sandwiches, soups and chili. You can get poutine at Harvey's but they don't peel their fries. Actually, the best poutine is at Burger King. Second, it's not cottage cheese - that would be gross. It's cheese curds - just thicker white cheese. It's a beef gravy, white cheese and fries. They put it in a container with a steamer lid and steam it until the cheese melts. Some places actually serve it with a blood pressure cuff. I think Ross lives in the Regina area but I haven't heard from him in awhile, busy time of year for him. I think Scwarzensafe lives in Saskatoon (we call it Toon Town) but it's a bit of a drive from where you're going. We Canadians love hearding you Americans try to pronounce Saskatchewan. It makes us smile. :) |

I second and third that. We have Hortons here in western, New York State. The coffee is worth the trip. My whole town goes there for the stuff. Often they stop there for coffee to go before heading across the street to Friendlys. It's a cheap place for a mini sub lunch too. Charlie |

Title: Re: Regina, Saskatchewan Post by Brewcrew on Jun 11th, 2007, 4:57pm Yeah, why do they pronounce it so that it rhymes with a part of the female anatomy? Who came up with that? I'm half Canadian and I STILL don't get it. |
