Title: Severe weather on the way....

I've never heard of school being canceled due to thunder storms.

I wonder what the NWS is NOT telling us....

If you go to the NWS site, www.nws.noaa.gov you can click on your area, then go to the local forecast, scroll down, and click on the forecast discussion and you can get the down and dirty details on the entire situation.

What they aren't telling you is that you are essentially sitting under a loaded gun.  It's only a matter of time before it goes off, and when it does, it won't just shoot, it will explode.

Keep your eyes and ears open, this system has already produced multiple tornadoes.

I've already made it well known that if/when the front comes and it's appearing imminant, I'm going home to the kids.

Rapid City Iowa radar last night had storms that were going in all different directions, metacyclones, large hail.

Sounds like the school system being overly cautious to the Nth degree.

Think they'll force the kids and teachers to make it up this late in the school year?

From what the news is, they say it's "likely" it will be made up on Tuesday.

That's the storm that came through here on Tuesday night.  $10 million damage to infrastructure alone here (and that doesn't count residential/vehicular damage) - we have buckled roads and most underpasses were flooded for most of the day here yesterday. Two houses hit by lightning, one fire fighter burned, countless vehicles totalled from being totally submerged on our freeways.  There were tornadoes touching down to the north of us.  At one point, there were 50 lightning strikes PER MINUTE!! It is an amazing storm.  I put a measuring cup out on our deck about 5 minutes after it hit and, within 30 minutes, collected 2.5 CUPS of rain!  Catch basins have no chance of keeping up with that kind of flow.  Our two rivers came close to breaching their banks yesterday but are subsiding now.  Worst storm to hit this area since 1931, apparently.

If it's the same one that's headed your way (and I saw on the news this morning that it most likely is) - do take shelter.  Mike had to get up on our roof in the midst of it and clean out our gutters as we were starting to flood.  Nothing calms the nerves more than knowing that your husband is being a human lightning rod!  :o  I normally love storms but this one gave me the heebee jeebies.  If anyone has ever wondered about the power of God and nature, just go through a storm like that.  Simply amazing.

Heavy rains flooded area drainages and roadways. Nearby, two horses were swept away by the strong currents, killing one.

Ah - life in the upper midwest . . . .

Two days ago it was 46, today it's scheduled to be 90 degrees, with Redd's storm heading for us, too.

I've got plenty to keep me happy in the basement as long as brew and junior brew are where I know they are safe.

It's supposed to be a doozy.  On the weather advisory map this morning we have a RED circle over our area, you only see that about 2-3 times a year, nationally.  You can expect t-storms, damaging hail, winds over 70mph and a good chance for a few twisters.

she'll be ok, Mel - she's now officially got this gang sending up prayers for her safe return back to you.  I think we're at the top of The Big Guy's list of group prayer folks now so he just pushes our requests through, rubber stamped approval.  ;)

Well, here's the radar for what's coming this way:

http://www.wunderground.com/radar/radblast.asp?zoommode=zoom&num=6&delay=50&scale=1.000&noclutter=1&ID=GRB&type=N0R&lat=44.54298019&lon=-89.56446075&label=Stevens%20Point,%20WI&showstorms=31&map.x=333&map.y=102&centerx=400&centery=240&lightning=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0

it's going to be a rough night.

Stay safe guys - it sounds a little scary.

I'm a wimp - you'll find me under the bed with the dog ('cept I don't have a dog!) in a thunderstorm.

I hate thunderstorms and lightening.  Scares the crap outta me.

The tornado warnings are already popping up.  Please stay safe and keep the radio on so you get the warnings, and be sure to heed them!

Sending positive energy your way!

Well the wind is only 45 MPH and we've already had 2 trees and our company sign fall over so far and I've only been here an hour. Its' gonna be real fun when it hits 90 MPH as expected.  :o Looks like I'm in for a looong night.

Yes.....at 4 pm the first of the sirens went off. This was the tone for sever thunderstorms.  4:15 the sirens went off again for a tornado touch-down and we were sent to the basement.  I took a few pictures threw the wet windows, they didn't turn out at all.  4:45 we got the all clear and there were a few vents that leaked and caused some water damage.  Not sure what is the worst yet, but our department had water down the hallway, and all over in the copy room.  Now the sun is shining.

In Rapids, a town away, the hail was baseball sized and took out the windows and winshields of a co-workers BF car.  Hail by us never got any bigger than marble sized.

Everyone is safe and it looks like the worst of it all is over.

And now it's headed for us.  We're all home for the evening with supplies in the basement just in case.

The tornado watch for us is until midnight.

Lots of red eyes and yawning tomorrow.

Yeah....they said it's till midnight here too...

I'm hoping that there are some good downpors again to really hit the copy room hard and stop the paper for a few days while they have to fix things. Maybe blow up a few computers? Yeah right..wishful thinking....

All those warnings and dire predictions were wasted on us.

We got less than a half inch of rain, scattered lightning and thunder and heavy winds.

We dodged that bullet.

Good to know you are all OK over there Pat.

It's that time of year folks...tornado season.  Everyone please stay safe.

For some odd reason, the heavy part of the storms seem to part over our little village (when we're home) and miss us.  We got some wind and rain, and that's it.  Sat outside and watched the storm to the north of us pass by.  Drove to Rosholt afterwards to take back a movie and there was small debris from trees everywhere, but that was all.  Did have some firetrucks pull into the service station as we were leaving, so I'm sure they were clearing trees somewhere.

Glad everyone's OK

We had all the same warnings, and on the back 9 of the golf course last night the sky turned dark, but the storm never materialized.

We had the same gusts you all did yesterday, but it appears we did not even have a drop of rain last night.

South of us 50 miles it looks like they were slammed.
