Title: I feel so displaced
Post by DonnaHar on Jun 4th, 2007, 11:40am
Here I am in the middle of my 7th day of house and  dog  (2 weiner dogs) sitting for my sister who is, at this moment, a missionary in Cap Hatian, Haiti.  She should be back this next Wednesday about 1:00am.

Not that I mind doing this for her, it's just that I feel kind of lost today. Besides that, old people feel better in their own beds.

I am also worried about her and can't wait until she is safely back home.  I'm a worry-wort by nature.

I just found out, and I know she didn't know this when she left because she's due at work Weds. morning, but the little plane that will bring her back just might be full and she might have to wait til the next day for a seat.

We heard from her last night for the first time since she got there.  The phone service is next to none. Now I won't even know if she left on time [smiley=huh.gif]

I've been to Haiti. Everything down there is erratic and dis-combobulated. She'll get home just fine though.

And then you can go get into your jammies and furry slippers and be in your own bed again.

I guess subjecting yourself to all that is part of doing God's work.

My next door neighbor lends her talents to her church group as a nurse and has been to Haiti and back a dozen times. Everything will be all right.

One of the secrets to staying in a strange place is to bring a few things that make you feel more at home.  A pillow, a favorite blanket or throw, maybe a picture or your favorite jammies and slippers.  You don't want to "move in."  Just take a few little things that help you feel less home sick.

I'm sure your sister is going to be just fine.  Don't go borrowing trouble.  If you're anything like me, you already have enough of that following you around as it is.

All the best,

Mike
