Title: Re: Yahoo Answers Post by Gator on May 26th, 2007, 1:39pm From my limited knowledge of the various types of scans, I don't think a doctor could "watch" a cluster headache via CT Scan as a CT scan really only shows the structure of the brain. It would be possible via a PET (Positron Emmission Tomography) Scan which shows biochemical activity in the brain. This is how Dr. Goadsby and others have pinpointed the hypothalamus as the possible culprit in CH. There is now a PET/CT scanner that combines PET and CT scans to create 3d images of the brain and pinpoint the location of activity in the brain. It is my guess that this person probably had this type of scan done if her doctors "watched" a cluster attack. Again, this is how I interpret the information I have read to date. I hope that someone with a better working knowledge will correct me if I am wrong. |
