Title: St. Francisville Post by deltadarlin on May 20th, 2007, 10:55am Sarah and I went to Baton Rouge a couple of weeks ago. All along the highway are old antebellum homes, some of them are over 200 years old. Here are a few pics. Unfortunately, most of them don't want you to take pics inside. Also, these pics have an album of their own in Photobucket. The Myrtles Plantation-quite well known for it's ghost. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0022.jpg Here, you can see something rather funny on the door frame of the house. There was no way a *glare* could have been there, due to the angle of the sun and I wasn't using a flash. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0025.jpg The Cottage Plantation. It is the only plantation in the south that is actually *complete* (slave quarters, outbuildings, etc). Slave quarters http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0027.jpg Family Graveyard http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0030.jpg Title to buggy that was purchased in 1820 and pic of buggy. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0039.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0036.jpg |

Title: Re: St. Francisville Post by deltadarlin on May 20th, 2007, 11:14am Rosedown Plantation-has extensive gardens (we didn't get to see the inside, didn't have time). The main house http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0041.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0049.jpg The gardens http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0044.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0047.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0052.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0056.jpg Give you three guesses as to what this was/is http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0050.jpg |

Title: Re: St. Francisville Post by deltadarlin on May 20th, 2007, 11:41am Confederate family graveyard. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0057.jpg This is a *dual* grave, two children who died a couple of years apart are buried here. The bricks on the grave are handmade. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0058.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0069.jpg The tomb of Jefferson Davis' wife who died at the age of 21. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0064.jpg Butler-Greenwood Plantation-one of the oldest plantations. It was built in the late 1700's and the 8th generation is now living in the house. It is also a bed and breakfast. One of the outbuildings. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0072.jpg These oaks were planted from acorns when the house was originally built. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0082.jpg All I could get of the house. The urns are of cast iron and are an original to the house. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0083.jpg Horse/buggy tie and watering trough. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/tribander_3/St%20Francisville/IMG_0085.jpg Sarah and I are talking about going back down there this fall and staying in St. Francisville. There is so much to see that we just couldn't see it all in one day! |

Wow. That house is beautiful, I love the large wrap-around deck. I want it. Around these parts, there are very few 'plantation home' style homes, but i love them. I would love to sit on the deck in some peace and quiet and smoke a nice cigar while sipping a lovely 2007 Diet Pepsi. Nice pics, Doll. B$ |
