Tomorrow I'll be in Jamaica sipping margaritas on the beach. I'm taking a well deserved, overdue vacation.

I'll miss you lunatics, I've gotten attached to this board in the past few weeks but I'll be back on Thursday!

Pain free days to all and I'll post some pictures when I come back!

oooooh, my sweet Jamaica! We were there mid-March this year and we absolutely fell in love with the country.

Where are you staying? Can I come?

I'm a travel agent and I booked a group of students from my school and decided in the end to join them. We'll be staying at Starfish Trelawny! Not something I would book for myself but it was free for me, so I'm not going to complain. Are you familiar with Starfish Trelawny? Where did you stay?

You can all come along! I'm so fidgety all day I can't get anything done. I haven't packed yet, so I'm pretty much worthless at work today!

Yes, I've heard of Starfish Trelawny. We were at Sandals Royal but I don't think we'll do another Sandals trip, simply because of cost. It was AWESOME but a little too pricey for our budget.

We're wanting to see Negril next spring. I'm still living, eating, breathing Jamaica though....can't get it out of my system. *sigh*

once you go, you'll know - NOW I know what that saying REALLY means....

If you go to Negril I would recommend trying one of the Riu properties. There's a Riu Negril and Riu Tropical Bay which is a little bit nicer. These are affordable but constantly get amazing reviews from my clients. Couples resorts are nice too but they're more or less on level with Sandals. They have promotions every once in a while though so they can be affordable.

Well, when I come back all moony over Jamaica, I'll be able to commiserate with you. :D

Negril is really nice. We stayed at Hediamism II (I think they have a III now). It was awesome -- anything goes... Ummmmm..... My son got married there. In the middle of the wedding video is a woman walking off the nude beach with a beautiful hat on... ;;D

Nothing like Jamacia....

Love Jamaica! You will see the most beautiful blue ocean ever!! I went a few years ago and stayed at the Half Moon Resort.

I've been semi depressed ever since I went to Myrtle Beach twice in one year (spring and fall bike week).......I loved it down there......people were so friendly EVERYWHERE and happy and content......the weather was fantastic even early in the morning. Lots of things to do.....loved the beach walks day and nite.....heard the weather is decent cept for a few months out of the year ! I was never satisfied again with our 'inconsistant' weather in Ohio.......kinda wished I'd never went cuz it left me so RESTLESS to live there !! I can't shake it !! I would HATE to think what goin to Jamaca would do to me.......I've heard it is just totally AWESOME !!!! Always wanting what I don't have Pam

Good idea, except we'd likely see a good deal more of the dreadful old silverbacks here than some of us would care to. [smiley=hurl.gif]

I think Hedionism would be a great place for a convention. It's all inclusive and anything goes. Prude beach and nude beach... Entertainment nightly... (or make your own). Gambling for Jean... Massage table (ummmmm) - disco (swimming pool has a glass window at the bottom opening into disco in case Jonny wants to moon disco - it's acceptable). Hot tub - nude or prude - who cares.. ;;D (heck I'm from Texas - nude at your own risk - I grade!)

Oh heck, Even this old broad is ready to go back..... No problems mon.....

Well, I've done that a time or two, Vern - my job was usually innoculations though. You cooking up some oysters? I miss those days. Nothing like the smell of burning hair on a crisp Rocky Mountain morn, is there? ;)

And, uh Barb....no hedo for us thanks. Even the prude side is....well, it's icky. Spandex should be a priviledge not a right. Having said that though, sometimes spandex is better than the alternative. We had a clothing optional island at our hotel and, let me tell you - the folks we saw should have opted to put their damn clothes back on. Eeew.

However, when you're in Jamaica, 'everyting is irie, mon.' Get enough Appleton Estate into you and you can overlook the whales on the beach.

Oh now Margi -- don't be a prude. Ya know me -- I never turn down a new experience. But in this case, I kept to the "prude" beach - just "observed" the "other side". And I agree - some of them folks should of took a look in the mirror ;;D . Twarnt nothin' to write home about.... (I was just observin' ya know!).

Now I met this fellar named Dave who was a "naturalist" and spent each night at dinner giving me all the finer points of being a naturalist. I just nodded politely and let him talk. To each his own. There just wasn't enough vodka (or other stuff) on that damn island to get this old broad over to that other beach.

But the night the little guy got in the hot tub with all the bunch of us from Texas and removed his little thong. ... ummm.... Guess I looked at him funny cause he made some kind of remark. Well, as I said, you know me... he finally got embarrased and put his little thong back on and got out a little red-faced. Heck, we were all from Texas... he had a lot to live up to ;;D - Guess he felt inadequate...

I'm back ...and I'm depressed!

I had a wonderful time. Jamaica is a beautiful place and I did a lot of fun things. I went white water rafting and climbed Dunn River Falls. I have a peeling forehead to show for it and a bunch of cuts and bruises but it was worth it.

One negative thing though...I was really surprised by the poverty and the shacks by the side of the road and just how much people were willing to do for a dollar. I guess I thought that since it is the number one destination in the Caribbean, it would be somehow more stable, but I guess not. It made me appreciate everything we have here in the US even more.

All in all, it was a great time and it sucks to be back at work. I'll post some pictures next week.

Welcome back. It's a life changing week, isn't it? I can totally relate to your PJD (post-Jamaica depression). I'm still in it and we've been back 2 months today! I hang out at the TripAdvisor Jamaica forum just to get a taste of sweet Jamaica....scheming to get back there, this time to Negril.

So, how did you like Starfish? Did you do Luminous Lagoon? Did you try some patties? jerk chicken? dirty bananas? Did you bring back some Appleton? LOL I've just finished the last of mine....*sigh*

Yes, the poverty is gut wrenching but the Jamaican spirit is unmatched. I've never met more friendly people in my life. Still emailing with some new friends we made there.

I did the Luminous Lagoon on my last night there. It was amazing...I didn't want to get out of the water at all. They had to threaten me with sharks to get me back on the boat.

During the White Water Rafting tour I had a chance to drink out of a just picked Coconut with a natural straw. I tried these red apples that grow in the jungle and of course the bananas and sugar cane. The people were really amazingly laid back (might have something to do with the fact that everyone's high 24/7) and I loved them. They really set the mood. I'm usually impatient but just being around them made me go mellow as well.

Yes, I'm still depressed. There is a spirit of "something" on that island and I can't wait to go back...

Sure there is ganga there but not EVERYONE smokes it.

Oh God, I did 3 activities during which my guides were smoking in front of me. Not that I mind in the least, but really my experience with everyone I came in contact with, except some management at the hotel, was that they were high or offering me weed. Of course, I don't think the whole island smokes, but while I was there, it was just everywhere I turned. [smiley=mellow.gif]

But, like I said, it didn't take away from the experience one bit. I really liked Jamaica and was just sad to see the poverty. There are a few other places I want to see next, but Jamaica is a place that I'll definitely visit again. I will make sure I stay in Negril though because I didn't get to see that area at all and I hear it's beautiful.
