Title: Don't pump gas on 5/15
Post by aprilbee on May 11th, 2007, 3:19pm
Ya'll probably have read something on this, but just in case, I thought I'd pass it along....probably won't make a huge difference, but you never know!

Don't pump gas on May 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. It was most effective and gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a
gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, encourage all your friends and families not to go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies' pockets in just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to
make ourselves heard by the industry for at least one day.

If you agree send this to your entire contact list with it
saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th". It will work for sure.

Except this doesn't change consumption one iota. Half fill up the day before, and the other half fill up the day after.

The only way something like this could work, and it would work for shock value only, is if everyone "topped off" their tanks during a 1-2 day time frame.

No matter if you filled up yesterday or 3 days ago, if everyone filled up withing a 1 or 2 day time period, then unless you go threw a tank a day...the stations wouldn't sell a single gallon for 2,3, or more straight days.  THAT my friends would be the eye opener.

This one is surprisingly bad... I would say that a least a dozen IQ-challenged friends have forwarded that note to me this week.

If they really want to make the world a better place, they should boycott oxygen all day on 5/15.

This is an example of people being fooled by media and nitwits.  No offense to anyone, but if you use the same amount of gasoline on May 15, but just dont happen to purchase any, how will that hurt the oil companies?

If everyone says they will not USE any gasoline on a certain day, this would reduce the demand for gasoline, and thus reduce the amount of money you will pay to a gas station.

Whether you pay your $50 to a gas station on a Tuesday or on a Wednesday will make absolutely no difference to any gas company.

If you only need to buy $40 worth of gas instead of your regular $50 because you did not USE as much gas, this would have an obvious effect on a gas station because their gross sales would be lower.

You'd see more effect on consumption if everyone in the country would just make sure their tires were properly inflated. Get a tune up. Replace that dirty air filter. Walk to work or to the store if possible. Of course all this doesn't sound as good to the unwashed as a "boycott".

Dramas are watched by more than documentaries. Emotion sells.

Yeah, it won't hurt the oil companies, and worse, it would hurt the guy selling gas at a 1 cent profit margin (maybe not too much because he would still sell his Cheetos and other crappy gas station food and drink).

But sometimes you just want to throw open the window and shout "I'm mad as hell and I wont take it anymore".

So maybe I'll just be an unwashed, IQ challenged gas abstainer for a day. What the hell.

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" My apologies to Peter Finch.

How about we send a message to Congress and the Senate on that day. Email, snail mail. Let's send them words on paper to do something or we'll find someone else who can.
;)

And for the love of God, avoid Citgo. Fuck Chavez!

1 I ride a motorbike as much as possible and even have a trailer for groceries..

2 We would have to buy no gas for 90 days to have any real effect... And 90 days would be a very bare minimum..

3 the oil companies laff as us for these foolish tactics...

4 We should avoid at any and all cost buying Citgo anything... Put them off the MAP in the USA...

5 There is a price we will pay for doing any of these and no one wants to be first...

6 the more we scream ouch the more the Govt rapes us, which is a fact...

7 I saved the 2003 Union Address, and it is a real hoot to read now... but very very long..

8 There are bigger problems than gasoline, taxes and even Global warming these days...
