Title: Let's play....name game
Post by Jackie on May 10th, 2007, 12:05pm
My son is picking up a bulldog puppy today.

We've decided her first name will be "Blossom".

OK.....what's a good middle name for the pooch?

Thanks..... :D

aw, Jackie that is SO cool!  Good for you!!  Best healing in the world is done through a puppy.

And yes, George, of COURSE our animal kids have middle names.  Ours are:

Barly Roy Storey
Hops Dennis Storey (sometimes, we call him by his middle name as in Dennis the Menace)

I vote for Blossom Louise......it has a nice ring to it, Jacks. Very feminine.   and...don't forget, you need to add an s to the first name, otherwise folks will pronounce it like the word for boobies.   ;)

Beans, I like the name Beans better for a bulldog. ;;D ;;D

Still monosyllabic and descriptive.

I've always wanted to have the cojones to name a dog $hithead.

Otherwise, Dave.

Since Blosom sounds like a girl, and Dave is a boy's name, I'd go with $hithead. ;;D

Ok Margi.....duh is me....I fixed my typo.

Oh...it's not my dog....it's my son's.  But..I'll babysit from time to time... :D

I'm not ready for another dog....maybe some day.  Hell, I talked to Rocky's vet to get some info on bulldogs and ended up crying...she said "We sure miss you and Rocky around here."   That's all it took....I'm such a puss.

No your not a puss, Jackie, you are a very caring human. Our vet had all the staff sign sympathy cards for our pets when we had to put them down and to this day I weep when I read them.
We grow so close to them. :'(

well, rats, Jackie.  :(  I told Don this when Millie left and I'll tell you too...

When our beloved Chelsea couldn't go on any longer we had to do the kind thing for her - same as your Rocky.  We let her go about six weeks too long because I think we were hoping God would call her home first.

ANYWAY, you intimately know how that goes...when we were at the vet, he urged us to get a pup as soon as possible, that we had been grieving for Chelse for the last six months and that it was time we gave a new dogchild another good home.  So...we did.  We picked up this idiot pup Barly (who had a brother hanging off each ear as he strutted around his pen) later that same day.  I'm sure we looked like drug addicts, the two of us, when we went to pick him up.  Me, no makeup, eyes red from bawling so much as I held my girl in my arms as she died...you know the drill.

Well, the trip home was interesting.  Barly had never been in a car before at the ripe old age of 9 weeks.  AND, he had just had his lunch.  After he power hurled all over me, his bowels let go as did his bladder.  Mike was really happy we had taken my truck and not his.

That night, Barly and I sat up together - me crying for my girl, him crying for his mom and his brothers.  But...we healed together and he's kept us laughing ever since.

You can never replace the one you lost but...as our vet said....you CAN give another dogchild a fabulous home and repay all the love that Rocky gave you.  Barly is now 77 years old and even though I don't even want to let my mind go THERE, I know the inevitable is approaching all too quickly.  We won't get another Chesapeake (just like we didn't get another rottie after Chelsea) but we will get another dogboy.

Food for thought, my friend - fill up that hole in your heart, gal.

edited to add....pass the damn kleenex, Jackie - I even made myself cry with this one.  LOL  damn animals.  See?  I still miss my girl every day but it's.....well, it's ok.  You know?

oh damnit woman - don't YOU start...LOL  we'll flood the place out!

Oh and, for what it's worth...I actually did know a lab name $hithead.  He was a nice dog.  I always felt sorry for him though - I thought his daddy was mean to call him that!  I always just called him Buddy - I just couldn't bring myself to say his name to his face, poor guy.

AND...we had a boston terrior when I was a kid and HIS name was Beansie  :)

When we got Ronnie the beagle I wanted to call him Bollocks (Balls for those who don't know!) and I nearly had my ex sold on the idea too!

I was full of how at race meetings he could walk up and down the paddock shouting Bollocks and how we could hang a sign on the back fence saying "Trespassers will be caught by the Bollocks"

He was quite liking all of this until I overshot it and said "And when I have all the neighbours kids round to play and they go home and their dad's ask "What were you doing today?" and they say "Playing with David's Bollocks....."

We ended up with Ronnie - funny that eh?  ::)

Naming a pet is always a tough task.

When I rescued my Doberman he was 4 months old and came with the name of "Ozzie"....sorry Ozzie fans but I just couldn't do it.  Ended up changing his name to "Deeogee" as in D-O-G.  Helps the kids around here remember his name since the all know how to spell "dog".

A middle name for Blossom?

Blossom Flora
Blossom Daphne
Blossom Belle

Booger.

It's appropriate for a bulldog, and I think it scans nicely with "Blossom".

j/k.....I think.

:)

Best,

George

Hmmmm... A Bulldog .... Awwww, FANTASTIC! Ok here's what will work... and in the year that follows you'll look back on this post and know why....... Blossom Gas.

My nephew got a Bulldog a year ago, and trust me when I tell you the name "GAS" fits. But then another cute little quark of his is humping anything and everything he sees.

Gas or "Humpy"

What ever they decide... they are real characters and I'm sure they will love her to pieces.  ;;D

with warm regards,
Tony

Marines name the Bulldog Chesty.
I like the name Fred.
Or you could call it Mr. Dog.
Or Fluffy or snowball or tiny.
