Title: Re: If you care to say goodbye.... Post by catlind on May 10th, 2007, 3:26pm God Speed Romeo and thank you for your service. In Flanders Fields By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918 ) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. In Remembrance and with Reverence, Cat |

Title: Re: If you care to say goodbye.... Post by deltadarlin on May 11th, 2007, 5:01pm For Romeo As soon as Taps was sounded that night in July 1862, words were put with the music. The first were, "Go To Sleep, Go to Sleep." As the years went on many more versions were created. There are no official words to the music but here are some of the more popular verses: Day is done, gone the sun, From the hills, from the lake, From the sky. All is well, safely rest, God is nigh. Go to sleep, peaceful sleep, May the soldier or sailor, God keep. On the land or the deep, Safe in sleep. Love, good night, Must thou go, When the day, And the night Need thee so? All is well. Speedeth all To their rest. Fades the light; And afar Goeth day, And the stars Shineth bright, Fare thee well; Day has gone, Night is on. Thanks and praise, For our days, 'Neath the sun, Neath the stars, 'Neath the sky, As we go, This we know, God is nigh. |

Title: Re: If you care to say goodbye.... Post by JeffB on May 11th, 2007, 11:36pm I have in this house tonight 3 men who were witness to Pearl Harbor. They were young boys at the time and had been born on Oahu. One of those young boys was my father. I have seen photos that I do not believe the rest of the public has seen and I can tell you, after all these years, their memories and pics are so vivid it makes your skin do the goose bump thing. My dad never knew his father, my grandfather died in '42 while pulling ships up from the harbor sea floor. My cousins, " yes, I have cousins almost twice my age", told me in detail what went on that Sunday morning on December 7, 1941. They were there just a few miles away. The generation of our fathers and grandfathers could not be matched today, in my opinion. I think it was a Japanese Admiral who said that they had awaken a sleeping giant after the attack in '41. I wonder if we have went back to sleep after WWII? We won two fronts in less time back then with many times the enemy. Lets wake up and get the job done our sons, brothers and fathers are in the middle of. Whatever it takes. This friggin nation is so fickle about war, and we always haven been. God Bless America. Whens the last time any of us heard that? been a while for me. |
