A person has registered as BB. You won't get the account name back, it's been taken. Ooops.

I am not worried about getting the BB name. I dont care about the name. If I had known when I registered for the first time that BikerBob was using BB as his signature I would not have chosen it. Whoever has it now can keep it.

Newbie or not it doesnt matter to me.

My question is why havent whoever grabbed the name BB come in to post to explain that its them and not me? Plus my concern is that all my previous posts are now under this new persons ID.

If I didnt come in to explain everyone would think that it was me who did it and messages sent to BB would be read by the wrong person.

I just didnt like the idea of someone else posing as myself.

Annette that has been done here for as long as I can remember - I have no idea who took your name but I doubt very much if it was to use it.

At one time people were deleting their profiles as often as they were posting and it got beyond a joke. Some people obviously got very peeved about this, it makes a lot of work for DJ to have to keep clearing the database of dead weight - so they would take the handles so that the "guest" had to choose another name.

It is/was as simple as that and although I can see why you would think it was a conspiracy I'd hazard a guess that is exactly what has happend this time too.

Please stop this.  

The "re-registrant", if they were someone else, would NOT be able to assume all of the old posts of the profile.  Look back on BB's old posts (pre-exodus) and you'll see the location in all of them has changed to Mongolia.

If a new person comes along and takes a "dead" username, they start fresh with a new profile - they don't suddenly attach to all the old posts of the old username.  

I realize I'm technologically WAY below DJ here but I've see the innards of these YaBB boards from an administrator's point of view and I honestly don't see how this is possible.  I will, of course,defer to DJ's expertise here and maybe he will tell me I'm nuts (won't be the first time) but...seriously, the re-registered BB has to have at least the same IP address or email as the original in order to assume the old profile.

Unless there's some wizardry involved here and someone has figured out how to mask their IP to be identical to yours, Annette (and honestly....why would anyone do that?) - this re-registrant has to be originating from your computer in order for the "new" BB to have attached to all your old posts.  

DJ please correct me if I'm wrong here and, if so, Annette, I'll be the first to apologize and eat crow.

Anyway I have received an answer from DJ and I am very happy with it and I dont wish to pursue this any further.

However, as you said, if someone used my email address they could register as BB and assumed all of my old posts. My email address had been posted publically on the Board many times.

However, if that was how it was done then the person is computer savvy and definitely set out to "hijack" the account, not just to grab the name BB. Why? and what for? Only that person will know.

Anyway, I am getting rather tired of all of this. I dont care anymore. I didnt expect to have to defend my name again and again like this. I didnt have any choice.

Please now can we drop this and just let it go.

Annette, I'm not trying to be combative here and I do respect you and what you've contributed here.  I will forever appreciate the help you gave us when Savannah was facing life threatening surgery and the gifts you sent her for her recovery.  Please know that.  I don't want you to leave this website - I don't want ANYONE to leave.

I have always respected you and loved you and still do with all of my heart.

You had always been there for me and you had helped me and Daniel through some of our darkest days.

No one here knows my pain more than you do. You mean the world to me and you should know that.

I am just really really tired of all the nastiness that had come my way and more than anyone else I only wish to have peace.

What has happened here sadden me a great deal when I realised that no matter how hard I try, peace is something I will not get.

Thank you, Annette - hugs back to you.  Just relax and be yourself ok?  You are a good person and you do have a lot to offer here.  When stuff like this happens around here, it breeds suspicion and mistrust.  Consistency and humility tend to have the opposite effect.  We are all at the mercy of the "mystery of internet" here and if we all could just come to the table, face forward and sit straight up...well, it levels the playing field.

Take a breath, sweetie - regroup, and know that you are among friends here.

But please can we let this thread die? I asked DJ to delete this whole thread but he didnt so he must have his own reasons.

However, personally I would like to let this thread die. I dont wish to be called drama queen or to be accused again that I am attention seeking.
