Title: Rant Time..... Post by BarbaraD on May 4th, 2007, 5:01pm INSURANCE COMPANIES!!! Ok, I've got drug coverage (somewhat) with my insurance company. Well, I goes to the doc this week and my arthritis is acting up (I'm old this happens occasionally -- last time I had to have meds for it was in 99 or 2000 - I forget). He gives me an RX for something for it. So far so good.... I go to the pharmacy and they tell me my insurance company has to PRE-approve it. What the hell does that mean? I'm hurting NOW! I ASK - how long will this take? Oh, maybe a week or so -- I repeat - I'M HURTING NOW! Anyhow, I get a WEEK's supply and pay full price for it. That was Tuesday -- Yesterday the DOCTOR called them and told them that I needed the damn meds. Today I called them and asked what the hell the problem was. They're going to send me a QUESTIONAIRE to fill out to pre-approve me for the meds. The damn woman had the gall to ask me if there wasn't something ELSE I could take. I (loudly) told her that I thought MY DOCTOR was the best one to decide that and that they sure as hell didn't mind taking my money every month. She said it might be a pre-exisiting condition -- hell I'm 63 years old - of course it's pre-existing! How many people over 60 do you know who don't have a touch of arthritis? This is a NO BRAINER! To me HEALTH CARE in the US is about the biggest problem facing us ALL. How in the hell did INSURANCE companies get to the point that they can tell us what we NEED to take? Doctor's can't doctor any more - they have to give what the insurance companies will "approve". And Lord help us if they don't make a generic for what we need! I'm writing Senators and Congressmen and calling them - someone is going to do something. This is ridiculous! CH meds are outrageous in price and now I have to get down with old arthur on top of it. Guess I can give up eating (probably do me some good). Hell, they approved me with CH with no riders on that and now they can't understand that old people get arthritis. Give me a break! This is just not making sense to me. Rant over (for now). Hugs BD |

You can take a lawyer to lunch one day and thank him, tell him to pass on your gratitude to the countless thousands of people who want to hit the jackpot with frivolous law suites. Granted there are many relevant instances where a law suite is necessary. Do you have any idea what malpractice insurance goes for? This all has a tendency to drive the costs of medical care through the roof... I'm sure there are other factors... (greed) I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to sue God for a crappy life yet. with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: Rant Time..... Post by Charlie on May 4th, 2007, 9:41pm It's good if you know a pharmacist although I'm not sure it would help much in this case.......anyway; you're right about the health care mess. A memorable episode of the Sopranos is when Tony's HMO sent in one of their own flunkys to try to drag him out a bit too soon. Tony had a way with words..... 8) I know what you're saying kid. Kick some butt. Charlie |

Title: Re: Rant Time..... Post by JeffB on May 4th, 2007, 10:11pm It's a sad thing when an insurance company has to approve something a Doctor has prescribed. Who runs our health care?? |

Title: Re: Rant Time..... Post by BarbaraD on May 5th, 2007, 6:31am What pi$$es me off is I have to PROVE I need the meds -- would be doc have given me an RX if I DIDN'T need the darn stuff? The funny thing is my doc told me he could run a lot of expensive tests if I wanted him to or he could give it to me straight - he said I was just gettin' old like him and had some arthritis acting up (like his) and needed to be on some celebrex (like him). We opted to go the "cheap" route and just take the celbrex rather than run up a big bill. So we saved them several thousand dollars and they want to argue over about a hundred. Only two more years till Medicare! Then I won't have to deal with these people! Hugs BD |
