Title: Have a Monday morning laugh @ my expense
Post by taraann on Apr 30th, 2007, 8:28am
Have a Monday morning laugh @ my expense

I was prescribed a sleeping pill a couple weeks ago (Dalmane) and shortly afterwards discovered I had been sleep walking.  I assumed it had been due to the Dalmane so I stopped taking it.

Oh let me share my sleepwalking experiences with you all.  The experiences had to be peiced together cause it's not like I can remember doing these things!

We live with inlaws in a large old farmhouse.  My bedroom is upstairs (up a long steep wooden narrow set of stairs mind you) and we have a barn/rec room off the kitchen downstairs where we smoke and relax.

Ok.

The first time I woke to all the lights on in the downstairs, bedroom, and barn.  Plus about 5-6 different candles lit.

The second time I had gone to bed with a very, very bad rash from using nair on my legs.  I had been applying lotions all day to try and clear it up.  I had also been vomiting alot before I had went to sleep.  I woke up at about 3 in the am sitting on the kitchen floor with 4 peices of toast in the toaster, lotion in one hand, and margarine on my legs.  I guess I must've mistook the margarine for lotion!

Last night I made my rounds turning on lights, I had taken out a frying pan (I guess I was planning on cooking!) and the barn door was open (I must've been planning on having a cigg!!!!) I woke up standing in my bedroom and Sam yelling at me to get back into bed.

How friggin dangerous is that?!?!?!

So looks like tonight I go back to sleeping pills, that's kind of a relief that I maybe able to take them with hope of some sleep, cause the most sleep I'm getting at a whack is 2hrs this past week and obviously I'm a busy lady during those 2hrs!

We are going to strap one of my ankles to the bed or something (I have been sitting here thinking of a way to put that without leaving any opening for your gutterminds but it's completely impossible)

Thank God you didn't eat the toast LOL

Try putting a hairbrush beside you, when you roll over it'll wake you up!

maybe putting some chairs on the side of the bed will make noise when you try to walk through them will wake your husband up and alert him you are sleep walking...it can be dangerous ...what if you decide to go for a walk? ...dark at night....

Oh gosh I hope this goes away for you.

You're right, it could be very dangerous . . .candles?  toast?  frying?  And your hubby sleeps through this?

I come from a long line of sleepwalkers/thrashers.  My grandfather broke my granny's nose TWICE in his sleep and my uncle used to walk down the stairs backwards . . . brew used to find me pacing the living room talking to the cats . . .

Edited to add:  There was just a report on my local tv station about a woman who is taking Ambien and was having the same reaction as you.  The doctor they interviewed said this kind of thing is a relatively common side effect.  They even have cases of SLEEP DRIVING.

I think I'll crawl in a cave now, knowing people on the roads may be ASLEEP AND STILL DRIVING!!!

Sleep Driving?  From what I see out on the roads some days I think it MIGHT be an improvement for some!

Taraann, Please be careful!  I do hpe you can find some relief, and that the sleepwalking will subside.  My second son sleep walks occasionally, but usually only when really exhausted, as you obviously are.  Perhaps when you can get the sleep situation under control it will stop.

You mean to tell me this isn't normal driving?  I just get in my vehicle, tell it where to go, and then go to sleep.

Guess I have to rethink my driving habits ...

TaraAnn, I am glad that you are finding the experience funny but yes it can lead to some disastrous consequences ....

Hope it goes away soon so that you can have a nice sleep at night in BED.

If it doesnt, get a labrador, she will leap up to you wanting to play the moment you slid out of bed and will wake you up for sure  :P

Tara sweetie... instead of strapping yourself to the bed... strap your ankle to Sam's. Just try to discourage him from drinking anything for up to 6 hours before bed. ...er Unless of course you don't mind sleep walking with him to the john.

Feel better dear.

with warm regards,
Tony

Lol yeah take a wild guess what he wanted to cuff me to?

You guys can be so witty and origional it's amazing ::) ;)

We ended up blocking up the door with baskets and totes and boxes (getting ready to move to florida is coming in handy already i suppose!) so if I attempted to leave the room by the time I moved all those things HOPEFULLY Sam would have woken up enough to realize what was going on and stop me.

Fortunately I didn't sleep walk anyways and I had to go through the trouble of quietly moving the barricade to go downstairs at 330 am.

On another good note I took 2, 2hr snoozes last night.
