because the news is out that a firm ( I can't remember its' whole name but the word "Navaho" is in it) has just hired 1,000 workers from Mexico to drive the big rigs at $.13 cents per mile as opposed to our guys/gals who get from $.28 to $.40, depending on experience and the company.

Privite owners are talking about striking next week.

If this is really true, I want to know if these new hires all have CDL's and the proper DOT certification.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Teamsters flexed their muscles again.

Being a recruiter and running a staffing office for a number of years I can say I'm not surprised. There has been a shortage of experienced big rig drivers for a while and the trend is expected to last for the next few years. I was signing guys right out of trucking schools along with Swft, Covenant, C.R. England and other companies. The sad thing is, that out of 30-40 people, I was lucky to have just 1 good driver. The rest all had felonies or were put through the class by the state or some rehab program.

Wow. 500 miles a day would pay a whopping $65 before taxes. What a deal! I would venture to say that the shipping charges for products probably wouldn't go down though.
