Title: Ritter Island--Pics Post by George_J on Apr 20th, 2007, 10:23pm Thought you folks might like to see some photos. Liz just got back from the latest project her CRM company is working on--documenting the artifacts at Ritter Island. The property was donated to the state by The Nature Conservancy, and will soon be Idaho's newest state park. The park is located on an island in the Snake River, at Thousand Springs near Hagerman. The springs themselves flow from the Snake River aquifer, and flow directly from the canyon walls. The power plant you see in a couple of the images was built in 1910, and is powered by a series of springs. Just the fact that power can be generated by the flow will give you some idea how much water is coming down the canyon walls. It's still in operation. The park property was, at one time, owned by Judge Willis Ritter, a federal district judge who still holds the dubious distinction of having had more of his decisions reversed than any other federal judge in the U.S. A biography of Judge Ritter has been published--"Thunder over Zion". http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0002-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0014-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0018-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0019-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0027-copy.jpg http://usera.imagecave.com/georgboise/DSCI0031-copy.jpg Best, George |
