Title: For the newbies
Post by Gator on Apr 17th, 2007, 2:36pm
There are a few things to keep in mind when participating in an environment like ours.

1.  These people do not know you and with the exception of the few you meet at various conventions or meet & greets, will probably never meet you in life.

2.  At any given time, many people here will be hurting from ch or life in general and may lash out when they normally would not.

3.  There are some people who are just mean/nasty/contrary/whatever.  You didn't cause it and you can't change it.  The best thing to do is ignore them.

4.  You have to have thick skin to participate in a message board.  If you are going to publicly ask a question or put forth an opinion, be prepared to hear an answer you don't like or an opposing opinion.  If either are going to ruin your day, it may be better to just not post the question or opinion.

5.  Things get a little heated sometimes.  It's just a fact of life on a message board.  CH.com on it's worst days is more civil by far than some message boards on their best days.  There are some places I've been to that were a radical, racial, rude and crude 24/7 flamefest.  This place is a cakewalk.

The best rule for about 99% of what you read here is "Don't Take It Personally."  I probably wouldn't invest a whole lot of my happiness and emotional stability in the other 1%, either.

Thanks Gator...

That should be a standard posting.

I know you guy tell me it's really calm here at Sunnyville Farm...but guys...when you don't understand yet...it's hurtful and discouraging.

I could understand sites that debate,etc...But when a person afflicted with this...and many, including me...never even have spoke with someone like theirselfves...find out about a place for support after so many years of isolation...I just wanted to run into your arms...talk to you...anything.

And to be met by sarcasm...being doubted...challenged...well, it hurt and discouraged me at first.   And I felt even more alone and hopeless.

But Ill give credit where it's due....there were extremely kind individuals who filled me in and told me to hang  in there...so glad I have.  And I do understand, now, you have had problems with imposters.

That concept is so difficult for me to believe...who the hell would pretend to have CH's?? And what;s the benefit for them if they did...the whole attraction is knowing you're interracting with people who get you...who understand an unspeakable part of your life...one , until now, you couldnt explain to anyone.

I don't know.  That is only my thoughts.....Thanks, Sherri

Stick around and read more. It's not all sarcasm, but you have to understand that this is a family. Sometimes it takes someone like an in-law to get adjusted and get comfortable. But don't come here with some kind of "cure" and not expect some crap.

BTW, I wanna have Linda H's baby! ;;D

Iwouldn't dare even attempt to try and tell anyone with this any kind of cure...I have gotten so angry at the years of "My cousin has bad headaches..."..."Have you tried....""You know what WORKS...." blah, blah, blah.

I have not responded to anything...yet.  And I going on fourteen years chronic.

I NOW know it's family...and have a great time with you guys...but you don't know that when you firsts get here.

Just a friendly format for newbies would be nice...then they would know from the door that this is family...and being ribbed is all in good fun.  Had I known..it would've spared me some tears..and the feeling I'll never be understood...if these people don't accept me...well...

Try to remember when you were new...convinced it was hopeless...

And in no way would I ever want this site to be somber and whining, etc.  I had said before I got here that I hoped they liked to joke around, laugh about it...etc.

But there still are some somber moments...as long as their moments and not months and years...I think we'll all be ok.                        Sherri

And that guy came out fighting...he was itching for a fight.  And not just on CH.com...in general.

He was being offensive...and yes, you better be ready, in any situation , if you present yourself like THAT...for a dispute.

That was just plain wrong of him.

Only those who dont really have CH or dont have a loved one with CH ( ie have no idea what CH really is like ) would want to pretend that they have them. Experience CH once in your life and you will know its not something to be taken lightly.

The ones who pretend to have CH are the attention seekers. They enjoy the emotional reactions they can provoke in people. Best to just ignore them.

Just my 2 cents.

I remember.

Around my third post I got into a board fight with some tattoed freak who just happens to live up the road from me now. I knew right away I found a home.

We have been lovers now for 4 or 5 years.

Seriously, one more addition. Dont leave the board when you become pain free. Those that are not PF need the same support you recieved.

Thank you Captain Chewy, You're inked lubber has said that as long as I've been here! Some folks have forgotten that.

Just to add from what I posted earlier...... I think the boys have razor rash. Chicken skin can be so fickle.

Anette,

I appreciate your input...it just is crazy.  Im getting the concept of people trying to sell "cures"...I wouldn't have even thought of that either.

But I am learning. And Im not going anywhere...if I am fortunate enough to either slow down or just suddenly not have CH's...how could I ever forget...it would be impossible.              Thanks everyone!  Sherri
