Hi crew.....sorry I been gone...lost my ISP for a while.

I have been shopping for some AV software after canning Norton for being just too bloated and ineffective, I will not go into great detail except Norton, Mcaffee (sic?) and AVG all seem to suck now a days. I have tried some others.....so Clusterheads.....what are repelling online viri with now adays?

PFDAN's

I don't run any, so far I have not found the need.

But for those that think they need one, I would steer them to Avast.com (http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html)

I see they even have a version that runs on Microsoft Windows.

I am a security guy by occupation, and I have found that anti virus software is generally a complete waste of time, regardless of the operating system.

If you want to be safe(r), you should put a decent firewall in place.  A real firewall, not just software on your system.

Most good wireless routers or DSL gateways have this built-in, but you can build one very cheaply with an ancient PC and IPCop (free) and it's really not that hard.  Once in place, the virii issue never comes up.  I uninstall antivirus everywhere I go.  It's a complete waste of money and computer resources.

But that's just my opinion.

I've been running Linux for the last ten years, and BSD for several years before that. So far no virii. YMMV
