Just read an article on how some researchers think the internet should be scrapped and re-built.

I think it is a very bad idea because when it was first concived back in the days of ARPA net, there were no comercial applications that took advantage of it. Try to do the same thing today and it would be carved up by several companys and exploited at the cost of the consumer. It would also allow government to dig their fingers deep in the pie as well. Taxes, tarrifs, user fees, data harvesting...you name it.

What are your thoughts on this???

Ads, etc that say keep the internet "free" are almost always sponsored by telecom companies that want to do just the opposite. They are beside themselves because they can't hack it up and sell it like cable tv.

I haven't seen those ads in awhile.... I pity politicians that would vote for such a thing..... It would be worse than voting to reinstate the draft.

I think you are right Paul. Despite the good intentions of the researchists involved, the result will be corporations trying to get control of what has become a huge assett and the the government trying to take control of what has become a haven for private thoughts and communication.

Honestly...sorry not to comment on the post....but I have to tell you....you guys are some of the funniest people...I have burst out laughing at postings so many times...choked on coffee, iced tea...sprayed it out of my nose, aspirated it (inhaled it)...and all congregated in one place...do you think has to do with us having a thicker hypothallmus....thanks for cheering me up more times than you all know....
