My brother-in-law is in Iraq again. He's been there for awhile now. He did 2 tours this time around. He was also in Desert Storm on the front lines. Now he's got another job over there working for these people. Check em' out ....

God bless and protect him... Hard as it may appear, he's keeping us safe.

I've done a lot of work with the Force Protection folks. Note the squirrel cage "slat armor" around the "Buffalo" vehicle shown in the link you provided. These are used to protect against Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG's). The most common RPG in Iraq and Afghanistan is the Soviet, Russian, and now Iranian made RPG-7. The cage causes the RPG-7 to pre-detonate prior to hitting the hull of the vehicle. Without the cage, the RPG-7's shaped charge warhead is capable of penetrating the armor of an M-1A1 Main Battle Tank. When the Army Strykers first got to Iraq, there were too many losses due to RPG-7s until they installed the slat armor on them as well.
