NO! He did NOT deserve to get cut. Think I'll switch to ABC or something. He's said worse about the VP (actually yesterday he said worse about Cheney). This is just BS.

Who's next? Who are the "word" police going after next? Comedy Central says worse every night.

I can't stand Imus. But Howard Stern was spot on when he said that Imus should have responded by saying: "Fuck off, it was a joke" instead of this contrition tour he's done.

LMAO...gotta agree with you on that one.   And....I can't stand Howard Stern either....the pervert.  (My 79 year old Mom watches him....she's not suppose to know of such things...LOL)

Oh....and sorry, Imus, but the 'contrition tour' isn't gonna save your grumpy old ass.

They're supposed to be meeting with him on Tuesday.  I find it very hypocritical that they fired him AFTER the sponsors pulled out, and then said the decision had nothing to do with money.

if anything he will now be more popular with his fan base and now they will probably have to pay to listen to him....so he may even make more $$ than when he was with MSNBC....

Mac,

Its the old double standard again.

Did Jewish people call for Jesse Jackson to be barred from tv or public appearences when he refered to New York as " Jaimetown" a few years back? Nope, because they have more important things to do other than worrying about the comments of one bigoted idiot.

You know, I happen to actually like Imus. Have been having coffee with him about the last 20 or so years. He's called about everyone names and they've laughed about it. And yes, he goes out on a limb every now and then (the Bill Clinton Roast for one - think he got to Bill on that one, but it was funny as hell).

So what has he done that Comedy Central or the rappers or Al S or Jesse Jackson haven't done? (Besides being pompose biggots). Hell, I didn't even know Rutgers had a basketball team - seems to me they got a lot of free publicity out of that one remark.

the thing that gets me madder than hell is when these "people" (and I'm including everyone - reporters, Jesse, Al and anyone else who has an opinion) refers to Imus as that "old man". I think the "older" generation should protest the heck out of those remarks. After all that is a slur on those of us in his age group.

If I remember correctly, CBS did the same thing to Andy Rooney a few years back for a comment about a black basketball player. Guess it was a slow news day then also.

CBS fires Don Imus from radio show
Decision comes day after MSNBC drops shock jock's TV simulcast

NEW YORK - CBS fired Don Imus from his radio show Thursday, the finale to a stunning fall for one of the nation’s most prominent broadcasters.

Imus initially was given a two-week suspension, to start Monday, for calling the Rutgers women’s basketball team “nappy-headed hos” on the air last week, but outrage continued to grow and advertisers bolted from his programs.

“There has been much discussion of the effect language like this has on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their way in this society,” CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves said in announcing the decision. “That consideration has weighed most heavily on our minds as we made our decision.

“From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University ... with such class, energy and talent.”

Rutgers women’s basketball team spokeswoman Stacey Brann said the team did not have an immediate comment on Imus’ firing but would be issuing a statement later Thursday evening.

Time Magazine once named the cantankerous broadcaster as one of the 25 Most Influential People in America, and he was a member of the National Broadcaster Hall of Fame.

But Imus found himself at the center of a storm after his comments. Protests ensued, and one by one, sponsors pulled their ads from Imus’ show. On Wednesday, MSNBC dropped the simulcast of Imus’ show.

The Rev. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson met with Moonves to advocate Imus’ removal, promising a rally outside CBS headquarters Saturday and an effort to persuade more advertisers to abandon Imus.

Sumner Redstone, chairman of the CBS Corp. board and its chief stockholder, told Newsweek that he had expected Moonves to “do the right thing,” although it wasn’t clear what he thought that was.

The news came down in the middle of Imus’ Radiothon, which has raised more than $40 million since 1990 for good causes. The Radiothon had raised more than $1.3 million Thursday before Imus learned that he lost his job.

“This may be our last Radiothon, so we need to raise about $100 million,” Imus cracked at the start of the event.

He didn’t attack MSNBC for its decision — “I understand the pressure they were under,” he said — but complained the network was doing some unethical things during the broadcast. He didn’t elaborate.

It emerged Wednesday that a key to pulling the plug on his MSNBC simulcast was an internal mutiny within NBC. About 30 angry NBC News employees, many of them black, met with news division president Steve Capus and said they’d had it with Imus’ brand of coarse ethnic humor.

DJ fired for repeating Imus’ comments
‘Gary in the Morning’ of Allentown, Pa., encouraged listeners to say phrase

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A radio station fired its longtime morning DJ Wednesday after he encouraged listeners to repeat talk-show host Don Imus' racially charged comments in an on-air contest.

Gary Smith told WSBG-FM listeners to call and say "I'm a nappy-headed ho" for Tuesday's "Phrase that Pays" contest, said Rick Musselman, executive vice president of station owner Nassau Broadcasting Partners L.P.

Musselman said three of the listeners who called were awarded tickets to a NASCAR promotion at a local club.

simply beautiful...

the liberal nut-job wing is using classic frenetic bullshit attacks to nail one of their own!  Imus has been a liberal for years!  God this cracks me up!

I think Imus is a victim here, no doubt.  However, the whole episode just a work of pure genius and art.  Jesse Jackson, who was nearly completely irrelevant these days, and Al Sharpton, who is completely insane, have taken the 'race war' to new lows.

Is it possible to measure the damage these two twits have done to race relations over the years?  They whip it up wherever they go, any chance at all, no matter who suffers.  Everyone should suffer.

I wonder how long it will be before we actually have laws that say a black man can say 'nig.ga' (because their income depends on the rap albums selling) but a white man has to be perpetually punished if he does the same thing.

Did anybody see the Daily Show when they did their (hilarious) segment on Obama 'half-black'?  I thought for sure they were going to catch hell for it... damn that was funny tho.

Jesse and Al must be soooo damn proud now.  Now we'll see them go after anybody who utters the slightest racial comment.  Just wait.

It  has a lot to do with money. The networks are owned by bottom-liners today and anything that gets in the way of selling Viagra is a no no.  It isn't a matter of money for him. The guy loves to be on the air, I guess so satillite would be a way for him to go. Why this one got him is such trouble is something I don't really get. Hasn't he said worse over the years?  My guess is that bloggers and the like were a big factor. No one is getting away with much today.

Rush Limbaugh has said more offensive shit than anyone on radio and Imus hasn't resembled being anything close to a liberal in years.

Some years ago, I found Imus on his morning show. It lasted...what....three hours? It's work listening to this guy. I got real tired of  his reminding me how much money he made and that he used private jets to get around. Maybe that changed but I haven't seen much of him lately. He looks terrible and I know he was on O2 for awhile. Was it some kind of bypass or emphysema?

Anyway, a little goes a long way.  I only vaguely remember him in his shock jock days. I'm surprised it went so far. Jay Leno said that his monologue has been approved by Al Sharpton.

I don't think he should've been fired. What happened to free speech ? He should sue MSNBC !!

Someone plz tell me which part of the phrase was racial ... ?
Is " Nappy " being racist ?
Is " headed " being racist ?
Is " Ho " being racist ?
Is " Nappy headed ho " being racist ?
Are any of these words meant to describe anyone from any particular race, color, or religion ?

As far as I'm concerned, that phrase could've been used to describe someone from any race.

It was a rude comment ... but that's all it was !

Corporate action based on 3 words that a couple of hypocrite, race baiting "ministers" decided shouldn't be said.  If it were a matter of company policy being enforced, Imus would have been gone a long time ago instead of being paid $10 million a year to be the abrasive, "Politically Incorrect" person he was.

Sharpton has already said Imus is just the first battle.  A precedent has been set.  What other less inflammatory words will be outlawed in the name of PC?  How long before it goes from corporate action to legal restriction?

So, the way I see this,  if you are  black, you can say, "nappy headed ho", "chocolate city", the "n" word, or whatever, BUT if you're WHITE, better NOT say anything for FEAR of offending blacks, jews, women and most of the human race!

And yes those stations are owned by the same people and an exec was on "explaining" that those "beautiful" people were expressing themselves in the only way they knew - thru their music. But they were trying to educate them that some some words were better than others! GIVE ME A BREAK!! Oh foolish me - I thought you said just a minute ago that they were intelligent, bright and witty. Now you're saying that they don't know that this is demeaning to "their" race and women? So that's ok?  Guess Sharpton and Jackson don't know that making false accusations is WRONG either so maybe someone someone should EDUCATE them also. But you'd have to shut them up long enough to do it!

But not being PC, I'll just keep on saying what I damn well please and offending everyone and the hell with it.

and Imus is a radio comedian who's been on for 30 years and is known to insult everyone and who I think is funny as the devil. He comes on at 5 in the morning and unless you're up at that time you probably never heard of him.

Italian Americans Weigh In On Imus Controversy

Washington - April 16, 2007 - A coalition of Italian American organizations has added its condemnation of the recent remarks Don Imus directed at the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team in a full-page ad to run nationally in Variety early next week.

In its ad, the coalition expresses hope that the national debate that this incident has triggered will lead to the eradication of the media's "unfortunate double standard of tolerance" concerning the negative stereotyping of Italian Americans as well.

The coalition consists of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, the Sons of Italy Commission for Social Justice (CSJ) and the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), three non-profit organizations dedicated to preserving Italian heritage while supporting a wide range of philanthropic and cultural activities.

The coalition ad notes that Don Imus and his producer, Bernard McGuirk have also taken aim at Italian Americans. During the show's Nov. 2, 2005 broadcast, shortly after President Bush nominated Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court, McGuirk called Alito a "meat-ball sucking wop," adding "First Scalia, now Alito. What is [President Bush] doing? Interpreting the Constitution or mixing concrete?" He ended, wishing Alito luck "And to hell with those who don't like the fact that he's a God- fearing guido."

The coalition finds such ethnic epithets as abhorrent as racial and religious insults and need to be dealt with just as severely. Of equal concern was the fact that no journalist, columnist or talk show host criticized Imus and McGuirk for using such offensive language.

The media's silence is further evidence of an unfortunate double standard of tolerance when it comes to Italian Americans and political correctness even when such offensive language is directed at a respected jurist who now sits on the highest court in the country, the coalition notes.

The ad expresses the hope that as a result of this latest episode, "such slurs against a person's race, religion or ethnic heritage, including that of Italian Americans, will become culturally and socially unacceptable in this great nation of ours."

The Columbus Citizens Foundation (www.columbuscitizensfd.org)  http://www.columbuscitizensfd.org/; The Commission for Social Justice (www.osia.org)  http://www.osia.org/; The National Italian American Foundation (www.niaf.org)  http://www.niaf.org/ .

Sharpton almost started a race riot in New York with false accusations that a young african american girl was raped by a bunch of white guys (90's) The girl's name was tawana brawley. Two black attorneys joined the circus. The whole thing went on for about a year. The only problem was.........it never happened. The two attorneys now work for dairy queen making blizzards---but our main man The Rev has been on extended vacations that we all have funded---the race for democratic presidency. We have become so " politically correct " that NOBODY has ever asked at one of these town hall type meetings--------" how in God's name can you be running for president ?"-----or------"tell us what really happened to Ms. Brawley ?" Instead we have people in Iowa giving this " not a very nice person" standing ovations. Jesse Jackson called New York " Hymie-town"----and he's still around. BUT in the end we all were entertained by my favorite comedians----------------------The Clintons--------Hillary was asked what she thought about Imus' comments and she stated that she would never go on his show--------fact is-----Imus considered her a joke and always stated that..........but the best was Bill who spoke at a Methodist convention which was primarily black-------------" I hope that all black people pray for Mr. Imus this sunday when they go to services....." I'll keep that one close to my heart!!!
