Title: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 11th, 2007, 10:41pm I just purchased (ordered) Dylans "suit" for Prom... Of course, he's not the usual "wear a Tux" sort, he wanted an oriental type suit.... so what say you folks... http://www.mandarintouch.com/images/MTZ-Y002f-Black.jpg I think it'll be awsome. He's not one to stick with tradition, but make his own statement. I think it suits his personality well. |

Yes he does...Dominique... I'm headed to bed...work in then morning, and I'm exhasted from ordering the suit, and the appropriate shoes of course whose shipping cost more than the damn shoes... But all said and done, I spent less than 80 bucks for his Prom outfit. And he keeps it, with no rental fiascos as with tux's. to add: He's not so little Jeff. He's a good 5 inches taller than Mom, and I ordered an XL for him due to his chest size. I'll take in the pants if needed, but this "kid" had broader shoulders than his 6'1" father. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by George_J on Apr 12th, 2007, 9:57am I don't know from clothing--but coming from an era when tuxedos were available in lemon yellow, I'd say it looks positively conservative. Go for it, Dylan. Best, George |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by E-Double on Apr 12th, 2007, 3:58pm GQ guy says NO. Although smoothe, not quite appropriate nor chill for prom. Then again, I'm from NY. I'd be blazing a black pinstripe Ralph Lauren with a smoothe tie. He can sport his uniqueness in Tie, socks and shoes. Go Zoot Suit Slammin'! |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by andrewjb on Apr 12th, 2007, 4:09pm :), can you get a pic up with dylan wearing it ? would make it easer to say, YEAH, GO WITH IT ! or not. andrew. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 12th, 2007, 4:09pm I appreciate your sence of style Eric... ...but GQ is exactly what Dylan does NOT want to go for. Mr. Goth wouldn't be caught dead (pun intended) in anything by Lauren or Armani, or any such nonsence. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Linda_Howell on Apr 12th, 2007, 6:35pm If you lived in Los Angeles or New York, it would probably not be noticed. If I were you Pegg, I would ask Dylan to ask his buddies what they were wearing. If they are all wearing traditional tuxes....he could be in for some ribbing. |
||
Title: Re: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 12th, 2007, 7:01pm None of his buddies would rib him. If they are wearing traditional tux's it will be because they are forced to by their parents, and not of their own desires, if they go at all. It's my understanding Dylan is the only dude in his group that has a girlfriend to take. I know Austin's parents and if he goes he'll be wearing something similar as Dyl. Another reason he chose this attire is because his girlfriend is planning on wearing an Oriental style gown. They want to match. Besides, Dyl has really come into his own, knows and is comfortable in his skin, and really doesn't care what others think. (sort of like his Mom ;) ) I'm going to let him stick to his choice. If there are ramifications he'll learn that through natural consequences. But I truely believe he and Dominique have thought this through. As a Mom, I'm more concerned with talking with him about what other poor decisions he could make on this night, (drinking, drugs, sexual activity) than I am about what he's wearing. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 12th, 2007, 7:28pm In the process of writing up a "chemical free" contract with him right now. For Megan's Freshman formal they had one through the school. Basically it's that they promise not to use "chemicals" and promise not to ride in a vehicale with anyone who has used. Now I can't "stop" him from the sexual part, but I can write into the contract that no activity will happen unless there is a condom. We talked before about if that urge ever seemed to be imminent, that we'd go shopping for protection. However, this contract also provides for Dominique to provide the required "protection" even if Dyl didn't plan on it, but she did. Regardless it's his promise to me. Dylan has yet to let me down on anything important. He's a good kid. Hell, he's bringing up his grades at an unbelieveable pace. He's come from a less than 2 point GPA just a year ago to a 3 point. He's really applying himself to life and school. His creativity has blossomed. He's found his nitch. Why worry about his attire, when there are so many other things to be concerned about. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by JeffB on Apr 12th, 2007, 7:28pm At 16 that was exactly what I was thinking about. Then again, Fast Times at Ridgemont was the exact story of our lives then. " If I'm here and you're here, doesn't that make it OUR time?. Surely there's nothing wrong with a little feast on our time" I can't believe I paid $50.00 for a pair of Vans for my daughter this week! :o |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Linda_Howell on Apr 12th, 2007, 7:35pm Pegg, obviously what he does regarding drinking, drugs and sex is a lot more important than what he wears..BUT, you did ask this: Quote:
so we're answering your original question. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 12th, 2007, 7:43pm Both my children are very socialy aware. I guess that has to do with our openess in conversations. Nothing is taboo to talk about here. Nothing. Weve had conversations about sexuality, drug use, alcohol, masterbation, one on one and as a family. I'm proud to say I have great kids who speak their minds. At least to me. I do hear complaints that the other ex "half" refuses to hear or care to listen to them. That they get chewed out for the stupidist things, but I'm not in that home, and I can't control what "they" do. If it weren't that Meg and Dyl are caught in the crossfire, I'd say poetic justice....the ex was a control freak who is now being contolled. So sad too bad...I'm not going to shed tears. It's amazing how the kids caught in the middle, in time, see this all for themselves. My lesson in this..never underestimate the intelligence of your children. |

Title: Re: Prom... Post by Redd on Apr 12th, 2007, 8:41pm Unless your daughter is an un-immacipated minor...her decisions hold more weight than yours. Law baby, unless you are willing to petition for gardianship of that child/ren, take all financial obligations, and attempt to prove your daughter an unfit parent. That is "on a nut shell" what federal law requires. State laws may differ, and I'm versed on the different state laws. I do however know the laws of my state. I'm forced to abide by them or fight them and go broke. I won't go into the specifivs but it's so conveluted it's unreal. And now Tommy Thompson is running for President? He came up with these un-understandable laws in Wi. I'm scared of what he's do to the entire country as President. |

Some of the admins are pretty uptight, and they could demand a more upscale attire. I know a dress code was placed on my childrens' proms. Right or wrong, I'd rather check with the school than spend all that money only to have my child kicked out of prom. Just my [smiley=twocents.gif], FWIW. Law will always favor a parent over a grandparent, if the parent proves to be stable. I know this all too well. But it seems this is the mitigating factor in long term custody arrangements.
