Title: Helen...
Post by Paul98 on Apr 11th, 2007, 2:18pm
Is back in the hospital again.  Her serum cations were very low again so she was admitted last night.  She said she has more tubes in her than a plate full of spaghetti.  She hopes to be back home Friday.

I'll say this, for a half pint she sure has some fight to her.  It has been 6 months of this shit for her.

Get well Helen.

-P.

Son of a bitch! Can't this woman catch a break?

Helen, please get better soon, and do whatever you can that's in your power to facilitate a complete recovery. Just leave all the good thoughts and prayers to us. God knows we're praying as hard as we can for you.

Hope they can figure you out Helen, keep your spirits up.    :-*

Have read all the magazines in the waiting lounge, some were old.  In the current news, the Beatles first U.S. tour is going well, they are thinking of recording a second album.

At least we know they'll get her out of those jammies she's been wearing since January.

Damn it Helen.

This is not what I meant when I said kick back! I'm sure that if you had your 'druthers you'd be on a tropical island somewhere being massaged by cabana bois whilst being served peeled grapes and sipping a Mimosa.

All those tubes and no meatballs? Poor girl.

Keep smiling...know that we love ya... and get the hell out of there as quick as you can...

with warm regards,
Tony & Ben

:(  I'm sorry to hear this!!  Helen - whenever you read this, do they know why they are low (GI-malabsorption problems, I presume?  Or is it a kidney filtering issue?), and how come they can't fix it!!!  I guess if it is malabsorption, then short of keeping you on the good ole IVs, they can't force it in ya.  They don't make something simple like Vitamin B12 injections for pernicious anemics who can't absorb B12 from the gut.  I may be totally off base and that's not your problem, but if you're having trouble keeping up Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+ and so on....I'm just speculating that perhaps it's because your GI tract is not absorbing them as they should - so even taking a pill won't help because it won't absorb that either....so it has to be intravenous if they don't have injectible forms!  No idea if this is the case, but since our potential phone calls keep getting interrupted by your low cations (ha!), I'm just hypothesizing!  LOL.....

Get will soon and tell them to fix it this time for good...OR ELSE! ;)

Love ya,
Carrie :)

You know, Dr. Noah Rosen (aka...Dr. Luurrrrve....) is no longer at Jefferson!  They say he went to Long Island to start a new clinic.  Maybe he did...maybe he did.  Or maybe he took a little trip to England....  LMAO!!!  Everyone at Jeff's HC still cracks up if I mention Helen's name because they all know about "Dr. Love".  They teased Dr. Rosen about it constantly.  Hilarious.....

Wuv ya Helen.  :-*

OK, call me a dummy, but what exactly is "low serum cations" ?

In other words, WTF is wrong with our Helen?  We are all very concerned, but what does she have, in simple dummy words that even I can understand?

Are her bewbies falling off? (I couldn't resist throwing some sick humor in here)

I worry so much about her, but I would like to know more, what she has.

Thanks
Chuck

Chuck, On page 1 I think I covered most of it - I'm not sure if that's really what is going on or not, but basically what I was guessing was that she has low electrolyte levels - Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium, and so on - they are called cations because they are positive ions....Ca2+, K+, Mg2+, etc....Chloride is an Anion (Cl-).

I know Helen has a history of a lot of GI problems, and I was thinking that the levels are low maybe because she isn't absorbing these electrolytes from her GI tract as she should be, unless it's a filtration problem with the kidneys.  However, I haven't gotten to talk to her about this because every time we plan to talk, either she ends up in the hospital, or I end up in the infusions or some crazy thing!

Hope this helps at least a little...

Anyone know how she is doing now??

Miss ya Helen!
Carrie :)

Just spoke with Helen.  She was allowed to temp. leave the hospital for the weekend for Barney's B. day.  She most likely will go back next week.

She said she is a patchwork of bruises from all the IV's and still feels "knackered" as she puts it.  She is hoping that the Dr's will get things sorted next week permanently.

At least she is with her kids this weekend and that is good medicine for her.
