A Stevens Point Area Senior High track athlete died after collapsing during practice Tuesday evening.
Senior Jason Schultz collapsed after saying he felt dizzy. Faculty tried to revive him and he was taken by ambulance to St. Michael’s Hospital , where he was pronounced dead.
School officials were notified shortly after, confirmed Public Information Officer Chris Weisgram.
Guidance counselors initiated a phone tree about 7 p.m. and will be available throughout the day to support students. Students will be notified of Jason’s death during their first hour class.

SPASH students told of classmate’s death

SPASH teachers notified students this morning of the death of senior Jason Schultz, who died last night after collapsing at track practice.

Schultz, who participated recently in productions of “The Music Man,” and “The Laramie Project,” had planned to attend the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for theater next year, according to friend Kassey Moscinski.

“He loved to act, he loves to sing,” said Moscinski, “He’s an amazing singer.”

Moscinski said that students collected a spare change fund after first period for Schultz’s family, which at that point had totaled over $583. Student senate continued to collect toward a Jason Schultz fund throughout the morning. Guidance counselors continued to circulate throughout the school through the morning, making themselves available to students.

Cause of death has yet to be released/determined.  The young man did have asthma, but the condition was under control.  He wanted to earn his "letter" in athletics before he graduated.  I can only imagine his parents pain and heartache.  I'd be a basket case I think.
