Title: Those who love animals...(Updated) Post by sandie99 on Apr 2nd, 2007, 2:45am ... keep our guinea pigs Eetu and Kasper on your thoughts, vibes and prayers today. We're taking them to the vet this evening. Eetu is the main patient, Kasper is just there for a routine check up. This is first visit to both. Let's hope that Eetu has nothing serious... I hope that he'll be okay, because the nurse said over the phone that guinea pigs who do not eat have something life- threatning and our Eetu never misses a meal! :) They both have been amazing little supporters to me, so now I want to do my best to help them. It's a huge honor to be with them every day and take care of them. :) Sanna |

Post by cynjeep89 on Apr 2nd, 2007, 6:47am Sanna, While I don't know much about guinea pigs, I am wondering if Eetu is still adjusting to his new surrroundings since you moved? Animals can sometimes be stressed by a move. Let us know what the vet has to say, okay? Cyn |

Title: Re: Those who love animals... Post by barry_sword on Apr 2nd, 2007, 6:52am Hi Sanna. I hope all went well at the vets. Our pets(2 cats) are a very important part of our lives so when one falls ill we do what we have to do for them, and nothing less. Here is a pic of our boys. Let us know how things went, ok! http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b7da23b3127cce8310e2738ec900000016101AZtGrZu5asU |

Title: Re: Those who love animals... Post by sandie99 on Apr 2nd, 2007, 2:20pm We got back from the vet a while ago. Eetu was a brave little patient. He and Kasper both were treated. The vet took a sample from Eetu and then he screamed. But he did not try to escape from the examination table, which was good. It turned out that Eetu could have two different things. We know more within a week or so - if Eetu had one sort of guinea pig fungus, then the medication the vet gave will not work and we have to go back. But if the med works, then great. We have fully cleaned each and every object in our guinea pigs lives and thrown away tubes they liked to play in (just in case). Now Eetu and Kasper are nicely back in their cage, eating hay and broccoli and resting after one eventful day. So far Eetu has been a lot more relaxed and at ease. Sanna |

Title: Re: Those who love animals... Post by sandie99 on Apr 3rd, 2007, 2:37am Tara Ann, It's wonderful that you had guinea pigs! They are the best... :) I had one, Olivia, during my childhood and I have lots of fond memories from her. :) I've been trying to look up what the illness the vet is nearly certain that Eetu has. But I'm not quite sure what it's called in English. It's one of the typical guinea pig illnesses though and the med (which was liquid thing the nurse poured to our guinea pigs necks) the little ones got should take care of it. The vet planned to give Eetu the med as injection, but because he was a tiny "drama king" (I quote the nurse) during the examination and sample taking, the vet understood that the injection is out of the question. on 04/02/07 at 16:39:56, Brewcrew wrote:
I bet it's a lot! We were actually talking about that yesterday; I'm not sure how old our little ones are in human years. Yorky, we did just move, but Eetu had a problem just before the move. We were not sure at first if Kasper had caused it (Eetu did not have hair in one part in his back, which could have been caused by Kasper's "barbering"), but when Eetu begun to scream and lose hair near his head I phoned the vet right away. But since we've been back home, Eetu has not been screaming and his obsessive scratching is gone. Timo took some wonderful pictures from Eetu and Kasper over the weekend and I promise that I will post few of them here once he had loaded them to the computer. Eetu showed his photogenic side, so I'm sure you're going to like those pics as well! :) Thank you all for your vibes & thoughts. :) I appreciate it a lot. Sanna, Eetu & Kasper |
