Title: On this day
Post by JeffB on Mar 30th, 2007, 3:42pm
March 28, 1836

On this fateful day in 1836 Davy Crockett woke up and walked from his bunk on the floor of the Alamo up to the observation post on the west wall.

William B. Travis and Jim Bowie were up there already. The three gazed at the hordes of Mexicans moving steadily towards them.

Davy turned to Bowie with a puzzled look on his face and said, "Jim, are we pouring concrete today?"

Illegals sometimes stand around in groups on corners in the bigger cities waiting for contractors of one sort or another looking to get a labor force that they can get a days work from,   and pay them under the table.

You cannot help but laugh. It is also true. I live in lil ol' Fort Smith Arkansas. In the past 5 years the population of the Hispanic community has risen to what I would approximate is 25% of the population. To the north (Northwest Arkansas) it is even greater. I cannot blame them. All they want is a better life. They are rough people. Probably like the Irish in Boston back in the early 1900's. I work with a Hispanic. In fact, I work with quite a few. I can see through them that they stick together and support one another. At first my co-worker (friend) and I did not get along at all. There were quite a few occasions where I could have flipped out and got into a fight. Fortunately, it did not come to that. He is not a bad person, just different. Today we are friends and I have learned a lot through this person.

In reference to a another post, (I would have posted this there, but cannot find it) why do we allow our jails to be filled with illegals? Perhaps I am wrong and they are not illegals? Why, when I watch Cops, why do 30% of the episodes concern Hispanics?

There is something else that comes to mind. Many of those serving in the armed forces are of Hispanic descent. Something that is both noteworthy and respected.
