Title: MOB blues
Post by Sandy_C on Mar 28th, 2007, 2:14pm
In case you don't know what MOB is, it means Mother of the Bride!

Although my daughter is not a "Bridezilla", she's getting on my last nevers here!

Let's see, things accomplished:

Place to hold wedding and reception - check!
Caterer - check!
Minister - check!
Invitations - check!
Wedding gown - check!
Tuxedos - check!
Wedding music (acoustical guitarist) - check!
DJ (no not Deej) for reception - kinda sorta - got contract
to sign that does not state amount, hours, or even the
date?  Like I'm gonna sign this?  So - no, not yet
Photographer - haven't even started
Cake - the lady we used for our older daughters wedding
is seriously ill, and cannot commit to Christine's wedding
   - so - no cake yet.

My beautiful, darling daughter, whom I love to death, is stressing about:

1,  What am I (me the MOB) going to wear, so that MOG (mother of the Groom) can make her decision.

2.  Honeymoon - where, what, how?  I've tried to hammer home to them, if they are going anywhere out of the US, they had better apply for passports NOW!  Oh well.

3.  Where are WE (meaning MOB and FOB planning on staying for weekend wedding.  We are renting an ocean front beach house that will hold us, Grandma, sister of bride and her husband, and the bride (cuz she can't be with the soon to be husband the night before her wedding).  Reason for this concern is that we are going to have the rehearsal dinner, hosted by the groom's parents on the beach in front of the rental house.  Why does bride have to even concern herself with this?

OK, Sandy, inhale, exhale.  We will get through this.

Don't want prayers, vibes or anything  just

GIVE ME STRENGTH!

Thanks

Sandy

I live over 200 miles from where the wedding will be taking place.
Photographer - uh - nope.

OK, Sandy.....inhale, exhale, repeat as necessary............can ya do that?? I know you can!

As far as the photog. My suggestions is you call the site wehre the wedding will be, ask for recommendations. Short of that, the local Chamber of Commerce. It is WAAAY too important a detail to get a 'pig in a poke"......after all, when it's all over, the flowers die, the cake crumbles and what you have, is your pics!

Now(stern face on, finger waggling at you).....the MOST important part of the wedding would be the flowers! I know, coz I used to be a florist! ;;D Please don't let your daughter overlook the flowers!

Hey, I know! Why don't you and Kimmiedawn have a nice chat about Bridal meltdown?? It'll do you BOTH good!

Happy, HAPPY MOB-ing, Sandy!

Write 'em a check for $10,000 and tell 'em to elope. They get the $$ when they come back and show your they're hitched.

Check with the Better Business Bureau about any photog you might hire.  They are notorious for being paid up front and not delivering the goods . . . . (lots on our local news about this lately).

when I had my wedding I put in each table a disposable camera with 24 pics in it.
My guests took pictures during the wedding and drop the camera in a basket set up at the exit. That way I got several pics from different angles and with all my guests on them!! They captured so humurous things and I really love to have them. I also had someone over to take just the formal pics, you know the ones you want to put on frames, but I can tell you, several of my guest pics where far better than those taken by the professional.

As a man, I really don't see why it's so difficult to arrange a wedding.
I had two of them and I had absolutley no problems.

Iiiiiiinnnnnhhhhhaaaaallllling.  Exxxxhhhhhaaaalllling.  Sigh.

Thank you.

Through about 47 gazillion e-mails, just today, have informed bride

beach house is rented,

rehearsal dinner is on, and she doesn't have to worry her pretty little head over it for one more second

MOB has not one, but two dresses purchased to wear to the wedding, and will let MOG know what they look like so MOG can select her gown of choice.

Need contact info for DJ so can get firm contract stating price, hours, etc.  Otherwise, I'm not signing nuttin!

Informed bride and groom, honeymoon problems are their problems.  Figure out where you want to go and book it. Not my prob!

Bride and groom need to go visit photogs, pick one out, send contract to me.  I can't do this from over 200 miles away!  And, yes, we are going to use the little cameras on each table.  Worked well fir first daughter's wedding.

Go find a new cake lady.  This one's dying and can't bake anymore.  Also cannot do from 200 miles away.

Already tried the $10,000.00 bribe.  No dice.

But, I AM breathing, although hair will be totally grey in wedding pics.

Thanks

Sandy

As a soon-to-be bride, I know exactly what she's going through!!!  When's the wedding?  Mine's August 4th and some of the things she has done, I don't have done and vice versa.

Good luck with everything!!

Damn, I was going to say pay them $1000 to elope.  $10,000?  Gotta agree with Brewcrew on that.  By the way, Jane and I are renewing our vows and would like you to make all the arrangements, but maybe we could be bribed.  LOL

Sending you some tranquility vibes, Sandy.  Hang in there.

And now that I think about it, Pat and I celebrating 25 years of wedded bliss this fall. We'd settle for $5K.  ;;D

Exhaling now.  Thanks for all the good vibes and support.  Believe it or not, I had a micro-mini hit last night?  Didn't really hurt, just the eye, ear, nose thingy.  Hitting my stash of seeds tonight.
