I think I reached my brother's home phone in Chile (it was all in Spanish). He said I could reach him on his cell also, but it's not going through. It's a New York (917) cell number. Do I have to add anything in front of the 1-917-.... to get it to go through? I think they're away for the weekend and don't want to wait until they're home tonight. Any help appreciated. Lizzie |

His oxygen levels drop quickly if he doesn't have the mask on - so he has to eat by lifting the mask, taking a bit, putting it back on while he chews.... They're still treating him for pneumonia, with IV antibiotics. There are no "answers" yet. They pulled a liter of blackish fluid from his lungs today (and he has a dilly of a hole in his back now). They put in a central line today too. They'll be doing a lung biopsy tomorrow. The nurse said they've done every test they have for him. Good things: he can eat. he can talk for about 2 sentences. in the ICU they bring the tests to you, even the xray machine. he's still his sassy self, just a very very tired sassy man. he's conscious (hadn't thought of that one - apparently I scared my brother....). had to wait to post until I told Teresa all this. don't want her finding out new info on her Grandpa by reading it online..... |

They're going to 'make him comfortable' - and no heroic measures. Hopefully he'll last until my brother gets home tomorrow around noon (soonest he can get here) - could be longer, weeks or even a few months, but I doubt more than a week or two at the most. I'm numb. I cry, then I'm numb again. Teresa is coming home soon, possibly driving although I don't like that idea much. Brother will be flying out on the first flight, along with my brother-in-law. My brother-in-law knows it's cancer; my brother doesn't know yet. |

He has days, not weeks. He's not in any pain right now (other than when he coughs). Teresa's not doing well. Mike's not doing well (son). Grandpa is like a father to Mike, and is a father-figure to Teresa. Besides intermittent crying, I'm sort of okay. Dad and I had a good talk this evening, then he told me to go home. (yes, I'm crying right now). |
