Title: Think a marathon is tough?
Post by georgej on Mar 25th, 2007, 1:30am
Heard about this on the BBC this evening.

Don't think I'll try it, although I hear only one person has actually died doing this.

I really wonder sometimes what goes on psychologically in some people's heads that they feel they have this much to prove. Did daddy not give them enough attention?

Endurance running is about winning arguments with yourself. If you can win these arguments you can pretty accomplish anything that tests your will or your endurance. Distance running becomes a metaphor for the runner in his or her own self discovery process.  It is rarely about getting the attention of anybody at true endurance distances.

Okay.

I see it as my own kind of metaphor - running away from someone or something.

We all tell ourselves all sorts of things, and we're all pretty much full of crap. You and me included.

Now THAT will make you want to get out there and run.  NOT
