We lost another of our cluster pets. Artonio had to put his dog, Scott, to sleep yesterday.

My heart goes out to you Tony ... I am sorry ... But he is out of pain now.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
That pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
So they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine,
And our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old
Are restored to health and vigor;
Those that were hurt or maimed
Are made whole and strong again
Just as we remember them in our dreams
Of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content,
Except for one small thing;
They each miss someone very special to them,
Who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes
When one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His eyes are intent; his eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group,
Flying over the green grass,
His legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted,
And when you and your special friend finally meet,
You cling together in joyous reunion,
Never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain on your face;
Your hands again caress the beloved head,
And you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
So long gone from your life
But never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together ...

Was it becausse of the recalled food?
That sucks! We've got 5 and I know how devastating that can be. I haven't lost one in 15 yrs or so, but Iknow that I've got 5 that are gonna go sooner than i want them to. :(

No, it had nothing to do with the recall. He was not young .. he had just reached the point where he could no longer be kept PF, nor comfortable.

Tony did what had to be done.

Oh Tony and Ben,
I'm so sorry, he sounded like such a cutie and I'm sure you have a whole ton of happy memories. Pets lives are too too short but the good times you have had will be all you'll remember I promise.

Thanks guys! I wanted so badly for this day to never come, but with each passing day Scott was suffering more than the last. I adopted Scott when he was 3 years old and he was with me for 10 years. A decade passed by in a twinkle of an eye and a heartbeat. I couldn't bear to watch him suffer any longer.

My heart aches for you :'(
You are brave....the decision to let Scott go is one of the hardest you'll ever make in your life....it is also the kindest and most unselfish.

I can't hold back the tears as I write this......
I see your Scott and my Rocky running together in that beautiful meadow....they are having a grand time.

Please tell Ben I'm sorry and give Oscar a big hug....they will comfort you.

That is a great picture which will help keep the memories alive. Putting down a pet is one of life's hardest burden. Cry out loud; it helps.

as a fellow pet owner and fellow ch'er I am so sorry for your loss. i've got a 12 year old lab that i look at and appreciate every day she's with us. she comes to work with me everyday and sleeps next to my desk. sometimes she snores so loud that clients can hear her during conference calls... ;)

I am crying too :'(

I love my pets( 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bird and some fish) so much and I know very well how much hurts when they have to leave us...

you will meet again....be sure of that...

We just lost our dear Fidge-Widget so I can relate. If there's anything I can do let me know. Rainbow Bridge services are available at most Humane societies ($58 US to have Fidgey cremated)

And if I do calligrapy and ifyou'd like I'll do one for you with the dates on it

Scott is your loyal friend for 10 years and losing a friend can hurt so much. The emptiness in the house and in the heart is hard to cope with sometimes. It will take time to heal ..

So sorry for your loss!! :'( :'( I had to do the same thing a couple of years back and it was very difficult and a horrible decision to have to make. In retrospect, it was the right and caring thing to do! Not a day has passes that I don't think of my friend ... the point being is I understand :'(

Found this at that time and it brought a little comfort, author is unknown:

Just A Dog
Don't ever call him, "just a dog."
Who haven't the eyes to see
That I belong to him as much
As he belongs to me
God must have had His reasons
For making the likes of him
And I humbly hope with all my heart
...that I was one of them
The years have dulled his russet color
And his vision is getting dim

Thank you all for your kindness.

Ben and I appreciate your outpouring of love in this sad time. Our cats Paula and Lilly and Oscar our boxer are having a tough time it seems. The loss of our friend Scott has left a hole in the tapestry of our family and the love you all have expressed helps in the mending. Thank you!
