I found something over the weekend that I did when Buddy was about three on what I wished for him when he was grown -- oh well -- that didn't work out, but it was a nice thought at the time. Title: Re: Where does the time go? (updated) Post by Gator on Mar 21st, 2007, 11:26pm Yes, he plays Saturday, April 7 at 9:30am with the Wind Ensemble and again at 11:30am with the Orchestra. A little about Zack: Zack is first chair bassoon in both the Stillwater High School Wind Ensemble and Orchestra and is also Co-Principal (first chair) bassoon in the Tulsa Youth Symphony Orchestra. He made the North Central Directors Association (regional) Honor Band and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (state) Honor Band. He was also one of the few students selected to play on stage with the Dallas Brass at their concert here in Stillwater a few weeks ago. He recently scored superiors on a solo and also with a quintet at the Solo and Ensemble Contest. Zack is also one of the Co-Captains of both the Stillwater High School Marching Band Color Guard and Winter Guard team. In his spare time (what spare time?) he teaches beginner bassoon players. He currently has three students. He also experiments with composing his own music. He wrote and submitted a bassoon solo for a music contest honoring the victims of 9/11. In addition to the bassoon, he plays the piccolo, flute, clarinet, oboe, baritone sax and tenor sax. He will be attending Oklahoma City University's world acclaimed Wanda L. Bass School of Music this fall with scholarships for his academics and his music which basically add up to a full ride (except for room and board). The boy stays busy. He is usually at school by 7:30 in the morning and doesn't make it home some days until after 9 pm. Couple that with Color/Winter practices and contests on some Saturdays and practices in Tulsa for the Youth Symphony on Sundays and I wonder why he doesn't just pass out from exhaustion and sleep for a week. He is just thoroughly committed to his music. Okay, I said "a little" and wrote a book. Sorry. What can I say? I'm proud of my son. |

Title: Re: Where does the time go? (updated) Post by Brewcrew on Mar 22nd, 2007, 8:07am Well, God bless him, Mike. You SHOULD be proud. And the granddaddy of the double reeds? The ladies will be impressed. It doesn't hurt that he's a very handsome young man. And being a bass player, I have a soft spot in my heart for anyone who holds up the bottom end of their section. Long live the bass clef! |
