Title: Re: Need advice on buying cheap airline tickets as Post by ClusterChuck on Mar 20th, 2007, 6:55pm :-* smoochies, Nancy!! :-* LOL, I was just looking at the pictures from the get-together at your house!!! I posted one of the pictures from that day, on Elaine's thread about her weekend ... We have to do it again!! Anyhow, the flight ... I usually go to www.travelocity.com and get the flight information, and then I go to the actual airline, once I find the flight I want, and many times, it is cheaper direct from the airline carrier! Good luck, hun!! I sure miss you!! Chuck |

Title: Re: Need advice on buying cheap airline tickets as Post by BMoneeTheMoneeMan on Mar 20th, 2007, 7:27pm I use www.orbitz.com and www.expedia.com. Both are pretty much the same thing. Pricing can be hit or miss, sometimes they have good prices, other times not. PF wishes B$ |

Title: Re: Need advice on buying cheap airline tickets as Post by Sandy_C on Mar 21st, 2007, 3:47pm Let me guess, you went to priceline.com? We did that once and after paying for the tickets found that they were for a flight out late at night, which took one entire day away from our alloted vacation time. We went to the airport early in the day with our Priceline booked tickets and went on standby status. This got us out much earlier in the day, but Priceline figured out that too many people were doing this, so stopped it by not allowing changes in your flight schedule. so much for Priceline. Now, I will check travelocity.com, orbitz.com and expedia.com. there is also cheapfares.com and a host of others. Just type "air fares" in google and you'll get a huge list of discount places. They all have pretty much the same pricing, but they show a list of airlines that have the lowest prices. Then, I go to the airline website, and can usually book cheaper. As Rosybabe said, travel mid-week, but make sure that you stay over a Saturday or Sunday, returning on Monday. Traveling on the weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) bumps up the price. Sandy |

Title: Re: Need advice on buying cheap airline tickets as Post by Sandy_C on Mar 21st, 2007, 3:51pm One more thought! (sorry) Also, when running your search, see if there is a box you can click to search other nearby airports, rather than flying into and out of your closest airport. I can get flights much cheaper out of Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC (both of which are about an hours drive away from me) than I can from my closest airport. Yes, I pay for long term parking, but it's much less than paying for flights out of my home airport. S |
