Title: I have a rash (don't laugh)...
Post by Melissa on Mar 16th, 2007, 3:03pm
and I have an appt. to see my doc next Wed. for a check on my meds (unrelated) and I'm going to ask him about this then, but, I wanted to know you're opinions.  Have you seen a rash like this before?  It's only on the inside of my elbow (only one arm) and I've had it for almost 4 weeks now, off and on.  I'm not sure if it's a heat rash or not, as I tried not to bend my arm when I slept one night and woke up with it looking better, but then it'll come right back the next day if I forget to do that.  Sometimes there's more little red bumps, sometimes not.   They don't itch and my skin looks dry if you look closely. (it's been very dry in the house).

Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?  Anyone??

*sigh*  :( I feel like a freak. (no offense anyone)

it could be eczema.
best to check with doc, like you said.
MelL, You are not a freak!;) I have very sensitive skin and get rashes a lot.  I've had eczema take on lots of forms.

Have you tried to put anything on it?

Thanks Rori. :)

The only thing I've put on it is lotion and that really doesn't do a whole lot of anything for it.  My neighbor lady has eczema, I think I'll ask her what she thinks of it when she gets home from work.  It's just that I've never had anything like this before and am a bit worried. :-/

good plan! :)

Sometimes rashes just go unexplained and that's frustrating. And if you're worried call the doc today. Wednesday is pretty close, but not if rash spreading or your worry is spreading.

I'm sure you thought about if it's a reaction to something.

My complete unprofessional remedy for pesky rashes is to dab them with rubbing alcohol a few times a day. Stings like crazy, but zaps it away.

Treatment = Triamcinolone. If you don't have a Rx, you should ask your GP for one. And have him or her make it refillable.

Topical steroids - great for stuff like you have.

I had a rash that looked like that it was called Pityriasis Rosea.  It lasted about 6 weeks... never on my face but I had it on my arms and legs.  You can read about it on line.  If you have it on one arm it is a slight case. I had it and it was extremely itchy... I went on Pred... didnt help.  and I hate that drug... anyway... I hope you have luck getting rid of it, try not to scratch... I had to wait for it to run its course... love ya itchy girl   Ree

My youngest son had shingles real bad than followed that up with Pityriasis Rosea.  The Rosea was easy compared to the shingles.  The dr never gave him anything for the Rosea.  Sorry to hear you are suffering Mel rashes are no fun.  Please get well soon.

Sam and I both had a rash that looked just like that a couple of days before we left florida, then it went away a couple of days after we were back home here in NH.  It just went away on it's own

EeeeeeWuuuuuuu groodie.  Not really Mel. Change your laundry detergent lately? Maybe try the cortisone cream at the OTC drug place. Poison oak? Poison Ivy? Too much drinking? Hope that goes away for ya.

Maybe it's from eating at McDonalds ;;D

Whatever... I hope it clears up! Try Chalomine lotion!

TY all for your concerns and comments... and uh, other comments.  Anyway, I put some hydrocortisone cream on it about an hour and a 1/2 ago and it is starting to disappear.  I think it's because I've been eating a lot of one thing in my diet that's not a diet. :-/  Anyway, I'll just keep up with the cream and hope that takes care of it along with my getting my diet that's not a diet back on track. ;;D

Thanks again!!

LYG,
me

That's my vote and I speak from experience.

Try hydrocortisone until you see the doc.  I've found great relief from triamcinalone (RX steroid).  Just need it for a few days and then it clears up until the next outbreak.

My eczema is flaring up now due to the cold weather and dry skin.  Do you get splits in your finger tips when you have your hands in water too much during the winter (dishes, washing, etc.)?  Sure sign of eczema.

(added after reading the whole thread) If it's eczema, most lotions generally make it worse by trapping moisture.  Dry and topical steroids will make it clear up.  And as a totally useless aside, if it IS diagnosed eczema, you should NEVER get the smallpox vaccine.

Eczema.  Use hydrocortisone cream.  My son has had it since he was a tot and still get bouts of it.  Then keep the appointment with your doc.

Good luck, Mel.  Sometimes rashes are hard to pinpoint.

I'd give it another day, if the image of the Last Supper doesn't appear in it, do the prescription thing.

My son had that exactly in the same spot...believe it or not....Monistat got rid of it in just a day :)
Doc said it was from sweating during hockey season & his elbow pads holding in the perspiration...thus a yeast like rash...give it a try!
Hope it helps
Shari

It is probably eczema, especially with the varying temperatures this winter. Dry skin is brutal when it is cold. We went from 68 degrees wednesday---to---a snow storm on Friday . Ridiculous weather. Have you changed laundry detergents ?

Well, the hydro took it almost completely away until I woke up this morning and it's slowly, but surely, returning.

Jimi,  :P.

Shari, I have a feeling that is what it is. :-[  I do sweat on the inside of that elbow ever since we got a new polyester comforter.  I sleep on my side with that arm bent and it gets no air.  I do have some antifungal cream on hand that I will try tonight.  I tell ya, this is just silly!

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone! ;;D

Ahem, ok, here's an update, lol.  I haven't put anything on my rash since the hydro (why am I even telling you guys this?) because the rash is almost gone.  I dunno, at least it is not such an eyesore anymore!

BTW, as soon as hubby and I get our King size bed I will be getting a more expensive cotton comforter.  Then you will only see posts about me and other personal problems instead. ;;D

Topical steroids kick a$$! You just can't overuse them or they'll turn around and bite you. I think they actually make your skin thinner if you use them too much.
