Title: My life is in the boxes Post by sandie99 on Mar 15th, 2007, 3:10pm It's odd to look at my room this evening. There's no posters on the walls. All the cabinets and closets are empty. Nearly everything I own is packed on brown boxes or colorful plastic bags (there's about 27 of them on my floor...). Some of my things are already at the new appartment. I'm ready to move. Tomorrow I'm taking some of the bags to the appartment, the rest will be taken by car on Saturday. First everything from my place, then everything from my boyfriend's place. Mine should be easy; I have two tables and 3 chairs in here. My boyfriend's brother-in-law was supposed to help us, but because he's sick, my boyfriend's best friend is coming instead. And my boyfriend's co-worker's husband will be there, too. Wish us luck with renting the car and getting everything to the new appartment! :) PF days to all, Sanna |

Title: Re: My life is in the boxes Post by Sandy_C on Mar 15th, 2007, 7:46pm Moving is hard work, but just think. All those boxes and colorful bags will be piled in a new home along with HIS boxes and colorful bags. Now, you can unpack and make what was once "your things" and "his things", become "our things". That's the fun part! Sandy |

Title: Re: My life is in the boxes Post by Redd on Mar 15th, 2007, 8:07pm I've been in this apartment for going on 5 years now and I still have at least 2 dozen boxes that I've never unpacked. All in my bedroom closet... |

Title: Re: My life is in the boxes Post by Brewcrew on Mar 15th, 2007, 9:43pm I'm glad you're excited, Sanna. Savor the excitement. I've moved 12 times since I left home at the age of 18. Each time it loses a little bit more luster. Before we moved into our current home (we've been here since 1998 ), we both agreed that we have picked the hill we're going to die on. We'll probably move one more time. Probably build the earth home of our dreams in the middle of western Wisconsin farmland. |

That's a real concern because I have a thing for pretty, fragile dishes! I don't have much plates, but most of them are older than me and break easily. And pretty much almost every box/plastic bag has something which can be broken. But I've realised that I'm not that attached to the material things I own. I like my stuff, but if somebody drops something, I'm sad for a minute and move on. And I have already taken the most precious things (like a plate shape of a seashell) to the appartment myself! ;;D So our movers can take it little easier. |

[smiley=laugh.gif] That might be true what comes to those boxes, which have just paper (old essays, things like that) inside of them, but the rest... they have things I'm going to need, so I have to unpack! And we have both taken just few bags of stuff at the time already, unpacked them there and then and placed the things to cupboards and closets for now. I'm sure that some of them will change place once we're settled, but doing it like this saves some time. Besides, the more of our things are getting there, the more the appartment feels like home! Sandy, when someone takes a look at some of my books they would certainly think that they originally belong to my boyfriend. And my boyfriend has some DVDs which some would assume to be mine. I still have plenty of things back in my old room at mum's house in Helsinki. I do miss some of the CDs time to time and I have lots of wonderful interior things I want to get. But I'm going to wait for a while to see if they fit to our home already. This new appartment will be the 5th place I call home (I'm not counting summer cottage here). Helsinki, London(Harrow), London(Holland Park), Jyväskylä(Kortepohja) and now Jyväskylä(city) again. It is kind of relief that I do not need to move stuff from one country to another, but I can simply walk 25 minutes from this old room to the new appartment. Good exersize! ;;D BTW, our guinea pigs will get a new home, too! And I don't mean just taking them to the new appartment, but we're going to get them a bigger cage. We have not bought it yet, but its in the plans. Eetu and Kasper just love the brown tube they have inside their cage and when I visited a pet store last weekend, I got them a new one. They were excited indeed! It's so much fun to watch when two tiny little creatures are full of joy and lust for life! ;;D So when my boyfriend said that once I'm living with him and the guinea pigs, I might spend bit too many hours gazing them... he might not be far from the truth. ;) |

Title: Re: My life is in the boxes Post by BarbaraD on Mar 16th, 2007, 8:00am Lordy, since this last move to the farm, I'm finding all kinds of "junque" I didn't even remember I had -- some of it hasn't been out of a box in 40 years -- do I REALLY need it? Oh well, maybe my kids will throw it out when I'm dead and gone...... Good luck with the move..... Hugs BD |
