Title: GREAT News for a Change!! Post by catlind on Mar 14th, 2007, 8:57pm Clark found out today that has now been promoted to E8!! For those not familiar with the military ranking system, enilsted members go from E1 - E9. The affectionately call them E-Jesus and E-God. So Clark is now an E-Jesus :) I'm sooooooooooooooooo happy for him, He's worked really hard this time around to get promoted, and now his goal has been achievedl Of course it will liklely be awhile before we know any details of a move or not; This family works miracles I tell ya !! hehe, Karla, we are in the military, 'just moved' would qualify as only having been on station a year or two. We are almost at 4 years here in Omaha. The military swings it's pendulum regularly - on one end of the spectrum they encourage people to 'homestead' not move, on the other end they won't allow homesteading, as in 3 years on station you are moving whether you want to or not. Although they just recently changed the regulations and you now have to spend 4 years on station before you can volunteer for a move. We have nothing on the volunteer list, we don't want to move. We bought a house when we moved here with the intention of Clark retiring and us staying here. Sadly, after 23 years in the military he gets itchy feet hehe. E8's are few and far between right now, the force draw down has seen alot of the senior NCO's (non-commissioned officers - that's what Clark is) cut and run because of the changes. There has been talk of the pentagon by a few people he works with, some of them saying they are planning to hand pick for a position. If he wants to accept the promotion, he has to guarantee another 2 years of service, which menas if they give us orders to move, we move. There aren't alot of slots for E8's so it's a bit of a conundrum. There is one slot at Wright Patterson in Ohio that I wouldn't mind, it would be closer to home and it wouldn't be outrageously expensive to live. It's also a position that almost everyone who's been in it ends up making E9 and gets to be God hehe. We shall see how it all works out, there is of course a myriad of issues to consider, since Alex doesn't want to move, but we'll deal with each issue one at a time and cross each bridge as we come to it :) Cat |

Title: Re: GREAT News for a Change!! Post by Gator on Mar 15th, 2007, 4:42pm Congrats to Clark!!! Annette, in the military, the officers are supposedly the brains of the organization and the enlisted get the job done, but I have never known a good officer that didn't consult with his senior enlisted for advice on a situation. The senior enlisted are the ones who worked their way up from the bottom of the ranks to the top and have "been there -done that." As far as the enlisted folk goes, he is more respected and in the wrong situation more feared than any officer. Clark is now one of the senior enlisted. I always found this description of military rank hilarious: Quote:

Title: Re: GREAT News for a Change!! Post by catlind on Mar 15th, 2007, 6:20pm Good one Gator, here's another for ya: The two things you NEVER want to hear, A Chief Master sgt (E9) saying "Hey, watch this" with a grin on his face, and a 1st Lieutenant saying "In my experience...." and you don't ever want to hear the 2 together in the same situation hehe. All I know is that if they can keep me away from the base, the commanders and the 'wives clubs' not only will I survive, but several others might stand a chance as well ;) Cat doesn't play well with other...I didn't sign on the dotted line. |
