Aprils 4th grade class Is going back in time to the 1800's.we have a local one room schoolhouse that the kids go to for a full day. They dress for the time period, recites poems from that time in front of the class.Luckily it's supposed to be nice out because it is heated by a woodstove.Even had to pack her lunch in a pail and no modern foods. They have been studying this for awhile. They also have been studying the Revolutionary war.It is a program our school set up and is amazing.from the beginning of school year the earn merits/demerits or if they're absent just get a no merit. They will go to FT.Stanwix in may.Plus they wear the uniforms and are a unit in a few local parades as long as they don't demerit out.thats 5 demerits in a year.they also gain ranks they all start out as recruits.April just became a Lance coprparol.they also spend the night at Newtown battlefield not to far from here. They even take turns with the adults and teachers doing guard duty.So april is busy.beth will do this next year plus their in girl scouts and softball practices start soon.so what cool things are your kids/grandkids doing?
Minnie
p.s. will try to post a pic later with the dress Aprils
wearing.

modified to add--Beths also in a bird watching program for 3rd graders.the info is sent to cornell university. She is also in a program set up like our us postal service.in school the kids write to each other and the staff .Each class has a address depending on the hall their in.they sort, stamp and deliver the mail in rotating groups  on tuesdays. She even had to take a test to do it like a real civil service exam.April did these last year too.

That sounds GREAT, Minnie!!!  What a great school system!

Who knows what my brats are doing?  They must all be doing great, as none of them has called dear old Dad to borrow money, or get them out of some jam they worked themselves into!

Now maybe one of these days they will CALL said same dear old Dad!  It sure was easier to get in touch with my kids, before caller ID became so readily available.  Hmmm .. Is there a correlation there?

LOL

Sounds cool, minnie!  We sure didn't have anything like that when I was growing up.

Let's see.  My oldest son is working.  The middle son is sleeping (he works the night shift).  The youngest boy is in school.  My grand daughter is dancing in the living room with her mom (just talked to her on the phone).  Oldest grandson is sleeping.  Youngest grandson - not sure.  Probably either sleeping or eating.

that's one of the neatest things I've heard of Minnie. I may suggest something like that to the school system here. My grandson starts kindergarten next year.

right now he's in pre-school learning to do "time-out" (ok - he's not really that well behaved - he's 'busy' right now). The bad part is he's smart as a whip - he just wants to learn everything "right now". You can tell him something and he doesn't forget it, but he's ready to go to something else as soon as he gets one thing - he just doesn't like to repeat until he's "ready". Last weekend he wanted to discuss snakes, so Granny told him about coral snakes (we have them here in the country). I told him "Red and Yellow - kill a fellow" - that's how I learned. He went around during the morning saying, "Red and yellar - killer fellar". The next morning, he told his Dad to be careful of "killer fellars".

He can discuss current events better than his parents because he and granny watch the news and he asks questions and gets "granny's opinions" (which are always the "right" ones ;) ). He thinks Bush is "silly" which goes over good with his other grandparents who are staunch repubs ;;D, but he's entitled to "his" opinion.

All in all, I figure he'll grow up to be a tee total trouble maker just like his Granny (and Granny will be right behind him to protect him as will a couple of his great uncles and a few cousins). It's just so much fun watching him develop....

Hugs BD

Meg had a leading role in the School play last week, and last night Dyl had his band concert, and they are both still writing for the Student Newspaper and getting good grades.  Can't ask for more than that.

Right now they all are sleeping. :) Yes!

my oldest is 12, he plays trombone in every band that middle school has. Jazz Band is his fav. He plays piano too, gets straight A's, boy scout, and all around good kid.

My middle one is 8, loves to read and play football and plays piano. he reads the dictionary at the breakfast table and the back of the atlas for fun! Stellar report card as well and has the best smile ever.

The baby is now 14 mos and is walking and starting to say a few things. I could stare at him all day. He is totally fascinating. He laughs with his brothers all the time. (I know I owe you all pictures)

I Love my job :)

Not Aprils class this is from last year. This is the programs 4th year.Ha,can't wait to see the beginning drill practices with marching and muskets.LOL their getting new uniforms.now we get to sell candles and sachets and try to get donations. This is not a school funded program. Our teachers are the ones pretty much doing this program as they go.They get as many grants as possible and will be teaching intersted teachers around NY state how to go about setting up a similiar program.April will be busy with the after school program. They are treated as soldiers and it is yes sir. They said all will be treated as male soldiers for authenticity, they earn their ranks and some high ranking fifth graders are coming back to help..you can check the above link to see past years doings.many pics hope it works.

Amanda, my oldest, and her husband Jason are also (hopefully) haveing a lot of sex to make me a Grandma.  They've had problems conceiving and she's lost two, but she's on fertility drugs and will go for in-vitro if nothing happens in the next month or two.

Christine, my youngest, and her fiance Jason (yup - I've got two Jasons), are busy planning their wedding in September, along with lots of help from good old Mom.  They're trying to figure out where to go for their honeymoon.

And, both of them called us this morning to wish us a Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Sandy
