Title: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by JenniferD on Mar 11th, 2007, 7:12pm Not really. I am so not ready. I just turned 44 a couple months ago. Too young for this. My step-daughter, Jennifer (not explaining the long story behind it, but yes, she was named after me) is 4 months pregnant. We are going to be grandparents. holy crap. |

Title: Re: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by Redd on Mar 11th, 2007, 7:20pm I hear ya Jen... However, my mother learned she was going to be a grandmother...BEFORE she learned she was pregnant with ME :-/ Yes I have a nephew who is older than I am. And Mom had me at 39 years old. I'll be 42 soon enough, and I'm in no hurry to be a grandmother. I refuse to grow older gracefully! ;;D |

Title: Re: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by JenniferD on Mar 11th, 2007, 7:27pm I am SO not going down without a fight LOL I plan on being the smokin hottest grandma around. Jen is doing ok, though we are really REALLY concerned about her general health to deal with carrying a child. Keep the vibes, k? I can't believe the mixed emotions on this one. still dealing with the ohmygawd factor. I feel really selfish talking about MY view on this, knowing full well its not about me, so those of you thinking it.... get over that. Its just the shock of it all. Hell, I've been having a hard enough time with just dealing with the aging thing (as some of you know!) Damn. Just don't read more into this than there is. I'm still floored. |

And then when I got to about 36 weeks pregnant I decided it was a really bad idea and I'd changed my mind ::) You'll get there hon, we'll be right alongside you! lots of love Helen xxx |

There isn't a rule that says Grandmas can't be smokin' hot, either...so you go, girl! hugs, nani (who became a grandma 2 days before her 36th birthday... and who was still pretty damn hot at the time) |

Title: Re: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by Margi on Mar 12th, 2007, 10:47am Oh, Jen - you'll love being a Gramma, trust me on this one. When that little one reaches the age that they can reach for your hand (and say "hand, please" ) just because they want to walk with you - your heart will just melt. When I first found out that I was going to be a gramma, I don't think I said 'holy crap' - I think my expletive was much more descriptive. At first, I thought I'd take a page out of Goldie Hawn's book and insist on being called "Glamma" instead of Gramma. Our little Savannah calls us "Ampa and Abba" or sometimes she just calls me "Mmaa". Her mom is "Mummy" but I'm quite often 'Mmaa'. Apparently, when you're 22 months old, it is imperative that you drop the first letters off all words. Quite honestly, I don't care what she calls me anymore - I'm just happy that she does! We very nearly lost this little one but our prayers were answered and our miracle was delivered. We've been allowed to continue the love affair of grandparenting and it truly is a blessing. One of the coolest things is you can zip 'em up on sugar and then send 'em home to Mom. THAT rocks. Gramma Carol told me before Savannah came along that grandparenting is wonderful but the sweetest sound of all was the sound of the door shutting on their little butts when it was time for them to go home again. Very prophetic - it's exhausting sometimes! Nani's right though - be greatful you are as young as you are - you honestly WILL need the energy! LOL Another great piece of advice Carol gave me was "be the grandparent, NOT the co-parent". THAT's a very easy trap to fall into but, you can't let yourself do that. Seriously - congratulations, Jen!! Enjoy every step of your journey and if you get the opportunity, try to be there for the birth. It is singularily the highlight of my life to have been blessed to be there when this gorgeous little creature drifted into our lives. I was the first person she saw as she opened her eyes for the first time. A moment I will always treasure. :) |

Title: Re: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by Gator on Mar 12th, 2007, 12:54pm Congratulations, Jennifer!!! Being a grandparent is great! Being young only makes it that much better. I became PawPaw for the first time when I was 40. Now I have 3 grandkids and will be 44 in a few days. I love that I'm still young enough to crawl around on the floor with them and chase them around the yard. I could go on and on, but Margi summed it up pretty good. I think you'll do great! Congrats and hugs from another young grandparent! Mike |

Title: Re: I'm ready to tell y'all now. Post by Ree on Mar 12th, 2007, 11:37pm Ree's answer for everything..." IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN!!!" You will be a wonderful grandma... just lock your lips when you see them not complying to your idea of the perfect parenting... and let her be a MOM... I was 17 when I had my first and I did it myself. It made me strong... Good luck and next time don't wait to yell out the good news...... we're here for ya... love Ree ps CONGRATULATIONS BABIES ARE PROOF THAT THE WORLD WIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLL GO ON!!! |
