Title: Grrr..I wanna beat a teachers a**
Post by ShariRae on Mar 10th, 2007, 10:37am
My daughter (who has had extra help in math for the last 4 years) wasn't understanding how to do a math problem & asked the teacher to explain it again..and was told "I already explained it twice,do you not get it or are you just retarted?"
Well needless to say..she fought hard against the tears welling up..kept her mouth shut & walked out of class directly to her guidance councelors office.
She was told the school will "look into it" and promptly TRIED to suspend her for 3 days for leaving class!
There was 7 other students in the class that heard the teachers remark..yet the school is "looking into it."
I told the school that "when signing monkeys fly out of my ass my daughter will do the suspension" I then threatened to go to the school board over it if they continued to insist on the suspension..they seem more concerned about her leaving class than a teacher calling a student "retarded"
Now mind you..I dont allow the "R" word in my home and have raised my kids that you never ever use that term when referring to anybody...and nowa teacher uses it blatantly...wtf?
Someone tell me I am not wrong here..
Much Love
Shari

These are the "professionals" to whom we entrust our children's future. No, you are right on the mark, ShariRae.

When it comes to contract renewal time, they want to be treated like professionals, but time and again they behave like a trade union. I just don't f'n get it.

OMG I'd be just as angry!  I think you should follow up with a complaint tothe school board wether the now comply with you or not.  The school board needs to know, and hopefully monitor this teacher.

Yep. I'd be pissed!  I agree with Tara.  Write a formal letter of complaint addressed to the school and the school board.  Date, time, people involved, witnesses and anything else that seems pertinent.  Be calm and professional.  The higher this goes, the less you will want to look like a hysterical mother.

If that fails, there is always the local television station.  They love to put that kind of stuff out, because it outrages people and draws in viewers.

Good luck with this.  With any luck this "teacher" will be mopping floors in some basement soon.

I would definately write a formal complaint to the principal, the super I and the school board.  I would mention the teacher's name and what exactly happened and say it is not acceptable at all, and should result in disciplinary action against the teacher.

I would also mention the skill level of the teacher sucks since he or she explained it TWICE and still people did not understand.  Sounds to me like this teacher sucks at teaching AND uses their authority to emotionally abuse kids and purposefully hurt their self esteem.

With teachers like this, who needs bullies?

 Shari,
I am so sorry that someone under the title of"teacher"
would say such a thing to your daughter.Their are so many caring responsible teachers out there. Then you get this brand of teacher who IMHO  turned to what they thought might have been a easy job. Please remind your daughter that the only stupid question is the one that never gets asked out of fear. Also let the pta know about the problem they consist of parents and teacher who really want to help the students, plus they can by word of mouth let other parents watch this teacher and their kids that may get treated like this.I believe this has probably happened before but your daughter and you are the only ones brave enough to see this through. There may also be a board of review for teachers.as said before document details and use them as needed.
I personally had a teacher in 6th grade math tell me"I didn't have to know how to do it just do it!!"  [smiley=huh.gif]  needless to say things went down hill from there.your a good mom keep supporting her. Please get her transferred out of that class.I don't want her being secretly mistreated cause this idiot teacher got caught.
hugs to you and your daughter,
  Minnie

Ok, here's the drill. Write a letter documenting everything and send to the school principal and superintendent. Carbon Copy (CC:) the school board (at the address at the school) and EACH member of the school board at his or her home address. Also CC: the Department of Education of your state (look it up on the internet and get the head honcho and that's who you send a copy of the letter). THEN CC: the local TV stations (don't wait until the "look into it!") and local newspaper.

If you follow these directions I can about guarantee you'll get some results. If it were me the SOB teacher would be gone immediately.

But you're in the RIGHT here -- use everything you've got to work with. The TEACHER is WRONG and needs to be gone and if the school can't get it done immediately some more heads need to roll along with his.

Let us know what happens....

Hugs BD

A Masters degree in Education,

And no degree of common sense. >:(

Don't let it slide, the school doesn't want to do anything because it means a shitload of paperwork for them.

The most important element of the letter is directness.

No name calling, no hysterics, no attitude - lay it out exactly as explained to you and then copy everyone in your world that should know about it.

They sit up and take notice when the press comes a callin'

The teacher needs to do community service by way of spending weekends learning common sense.

Let people know.

A very wise man once said, "If common sense were common, everyone would have it."  [smiley=huh.gif]

Dont let it go... I let something like that go and it eats me up to this day... My daughter had alergies and had to blow her nose during school... The teacher called me to tell me she blew her nose too much  not kidding here... I told her to call me when she burnt the school down... so then one day she said "Gabrielle I don't want you to blow your nose until it is dripping into your mouth then you can blow your nose..."
This teacher also told her if she touched her hair again she would cut it off. She dictated the type of shirts she wore so she wouldnt play with her sleves and told me that because of the way my daughter looked...(pretty) if we didnt get her motivated academically we would lose her... I said are you tellin me she's a dumb blonde.
The statement she made about her blowing her nose was the last straw and she said she felt threatened.  I called the school and the principal backed her up... The teacher also took Breezy aside and made her feel like she did the wrong thing to tell me... several kids also pulled me aside to tell me this teacher was abusive in the way she would embarass her.  Breezy went to the nurse alot that year and had alot of absences.  She would also mark Breezy tardy alot while the kids in her car pool were never marked late and had different teachers.  This teacher caused such havoc in our lives... Made us CORE evaluate our daughter and it was like a wasted year.  I am so sorry I didnt have her taken out of the class that year.   Good luck persue it though... I love you Ree
