Fascinating post!!!

In MY mind, it is sticking our "better than Thou" nose where it doesn't belong, most of the time. The old "My way is the right way" mentality.

I don't see us as being an empire builder, just pushy.

And most of the time, it is the politicians' game .. Instead of letting the military go in, kick ass, and get the hell out, the politicians have to play their silly games.
