Title: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by taraann on Mar 2nd, 2007, 8:09am and we had a Blast. The day we left Florida it was 80 and today here in NH is a snowstorm :-/ can't say I'm glad to be back in NH. So my dad and bro are near daytona beach and my sis and her fam (2 neices and a nephew) are on the Gulf coast.... We decided we are going to move to Florida this summer. But funny thing is, is my inlaws are moving to Fla by next winter too... we all made our decisions independently so it was kinda funny to hear them say they were moving too. My brother in law (Sam's bro) and his family are moving to Florida too, he lived there for a few years, years ago. Funny funny huh? I hate cold, I hate winter, and I missmy family so why not right? Well ok here's my woe's. Sam had put in for our florida vaca months and months ago and was approved. OUr last weekend in florida, his boss calls and asks him to fly back to NH (keep in mind we drove down) to work a couple days early cause 5 techs quit during our vaca. Get this they ask him to fly and then pay them back for the plane ticket later!!! Sam says NO this is my vaca. He gets back to work and then gets FIRED for not flying back early!!!! Umm we really were planning on budgeting just to make this ohhhh so wanted move in the summer! WTF?? right? |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by Gator on Mar 2nd, 2007, 8:18am That sucks totally. I don't know about the structure of the company he works for, but if there is someone above his boss, you may want to make sure the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. Sam may not end up being the last one fired. |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by jimmers on Mar 2nd, 2007, 8:22am Sounds like he might be better off working for someone else anyway. What a bunch of jerks! Thats why I never tell anyone where I'm going or my personal cell phone number. What I'm wondering is, If they needed him so badly at the time, why would they fire him when he got back? They obviously didn't need him that bad after all. I think they were just being A-holes. It sounds to me like you guys have a pretty good case and I would call a lawyer and sue the shit out of them! Now it is going to be on his work record forever that he got terminated, and that is something a person doesn't need >:( Jimmers |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by marlinsfan on Mar 2nd, 2007, 8:44am Getting fired was a sign that you all should move down here now, not this summer. Today it's 80F already, should get up to 86. I'm a bit further south, near Ft Lauderdale. I lived in New England for many years, and love it down here. |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by taraann on Mar 2nd, 2007, 10:13am Yeah the whole firing him for not coming back to help doesn't make sense.... I think it's cause he didn't apoligize and kiss butt. I am willing to bet they expected him to be sorry and he wasn't then it escalated from there. Yeah I am trying to take it as a sign that moving HAS to happen. It just sucks cause our budget was gonna be tight to begin with. |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by JeffB on Mar 2nd, 2007, 11:03am Do you guys work in an "at will state"? If not, labor commission! |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by froggy on Mar 2nd, 2007, 11:41am Taraann, best of luck to you. just a suggestion, if you can find any Tiger's Eye, carry a piece with you for a couple of days. There's supposed to be a decision making property attached to the stone (if you're into stone meanings). |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by georgej on Mar 2nd, 2007, 10:08pm There's a lot to be said for being unreachable while you're on vacation. I think that's why the Great Spirit invented caller ID. Back when, I discovered that it was also helpful to be in remote, uncivilized locations. A determined desk monkey could have found me, I suppose--but, with luck, the coyotes would have eaten him first. I agree with the others here--sounds like the business is a mickeymouse operation. Harassing people on vacation and firing them for not coming back early is the ripest sort of chickensh#t. I'm sure he'll find something better very soon. Best wishes, George |

Title: Re: So obviously I am back from vaca Post by taraann on Mar 4th, 2007, 12:41am Yeah it's really tempting to just pick up and move now! My sis keeps telling us to get our butts down there and stay with her till we get settled. And her hubby keeps sending job info. But I gotta keep reminding myself that I don't want the kids to have to change schools in the middle of the year. I don't know what an "at will state" is...? Quote:
Awww I am green with jealousy. That's all I keep hearing... and here we are stuck with snow and freezing rain. |

I've heard of that. We are already completely decided about the move... Just gotta force ourselves to stick it out for now. |
