Title: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by Sean_C on Feb 27th, 2007, 6:47pm You can't win the 216 million if you don't play ;;D http://www.megamillions.com/ If you were lucky enough to win would you take the cash, or the 20 year plan? Just curious. Sean........................................... |

Title: Re: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by fubar on Feb 27th, 2007, 6:53pm I'd donate the ticket to charity. Yep. Charity of "Daddy Neeeeeds His Ride Pimped". Ah hell, money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure makes unhappiness easier to tolerate! I'd take the money in a lump sum and run with it. edited to add: What kind of crap is this...? In California, the payout for picking 5 of the 6 numbers is calculated differently than the rest of the tickets! Everywhere else, it is a fixed amount ($250,000). In California, the payout (by law) has to be based on a parimutuel method (based on how much the other players bet and won). So, the payout there was $160,600, almost $90,000 less! The California tickets are inferior to all the other tickets purchased. Great. Thank you SO MUCH, California government. Title: Re: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by Redd on Feb 27th, 2007, 7:06pm I'd take the 20 year plan...there would still be enough to live on and invest wisely. Take care of some bills and build for my future. |

Title: Re: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by fubar on Feb 27th, 2007, 7:16pm 20 Year plan assumes... 1) ...the plan stay solvent. I'm sure they use some kind of insurance company to bond it, but you never know. Sometimes annuity companies just stop making payments for some reason. Plus, you have the whole problem of what to do if the winner dies... even if you can put it in the will, there's the problem of probate, taxes, etc. 2) ...they know how to manage your money better than an accountant that YOU pay. Leaving the money with them means you get a fixed return on that money, while if it was in your hands, a good money manager can make more suitable decisions based on your tolerance for risk, plans for retirement, etc... maybe get a better return, maybe get more utilization of the money in your time Lump sum for me, but it's a personal choice I hope to make someday. Guess I'd have o buy a ticket first. |

Title: Re: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by Redd on Feb 27th, 2007, 7:24pm Now that I'm making much better money, I plan to start buying a ticket for each powerball drawing. I can splurge now in 2 bucks a week. I always thought I'd buy myself a comfy house, but after this snowfall and the one due in on Thursday, with my back I'm not about to be doing any shoveling of drivways and sidewalks... Can we say CONDO? |

Title: Re: Did you play your Mega Millions tonight ?? Post by BobG on Feb 28th, 2007, 1:02pm I'd take the lump sum. 20 years of payements? I don't think so! I wouldn't trust the lottery people any further than I can spit. Hell, a piddly $million will pay you a hundred grand a year, after taxes. Except yesterday. The friggin Chinese did their best to screw up the world markets. |
