Title: Can you believe this woman?!
Post by sandie99 on Feb 22nd, 2007, 5:14am
For the past few months Finland have had one entertainment story above all.

No, it's not the two talented musicians who passed away.
No, it's not our Idols nor Eurovision Song Contest we'll be hosting in May.

It's our Prime Minister's ex- girlfriend.

After 9 month relationship, PM ended it in November. Ever since this lady has given about zillion interviews in which she has frequently mentioned that she will now get away from the limelight. Yeah, right.

This week she published a BOOK about that relationship. 84 pages of the book are her diary entries after that her comments in interviews and in the end there's some media analysis about the whole relationship. And us Finns... we're  >:(

Why? Because we like our PM a lot. Sure, he said his fairwells to this lady (single mom of two with her own catering company) via text message. That happends. They met online... and had one long conversation after that break up text. Sure, it took place at a parking lot, but on the same time PM was little busy with all the EU leadership stuff and up-coming election issues.

And we're outraged because this lady planned to include all the text messages, emails and other correspondence she and PM had during their relationship! Several judges have pointed out that PM should sue... Interestingly, it was the public's outrage and not common sense which made her pull out most of the texts and emails from the scandal novel.

Elections are coming up, so it is interesting that she is publishing her book now. I happen to know that the tiny publisher has sympathies towards PM's political opponent party. Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

I'm sure that this kind of "kiss and tell"- behaviour is common practice in UK/USA, but back in here this is the first of its kind in this form. Angry partners have told all to magazines before, but a book?! Nobody back here has any doubts why she did it: revenge and money. I hear that if the small amount of books are sold, she will get 25.000 euros reward for sure, plus the reward she got from writing it.

And there's more: she has heard private telephone conversations the PM had and she plans to tell everything! According to today's papers she "has nothing to lose", so she's waiting now to see who offers the biggest amount of euros and then tells everything! :o

It's one thing to tell about the relationship she had with the PM. But it's complitely another one to reveal all the secret things she might have overhearded from PM's conversations! She says that she's not a thread to Finland, but I have hard time to believe that. Who knows what she might have heard - and tell! >:(

We don't have similar laws to protect our nation than some others do. But still, to a normal person it would be clear to protect one's own country! This is outrageous! >:(

Let's just see how this story continues...

And all we've got is Anna Nichole Smith... :)

Geezz, the trial to SEE WHO gets her body for burial is ridiculous. Yesterday they had  'viewing' at the morgue. The judge has nicknames for all the lawyers and gets off on tangents about nothing. It's a circus and on all day long...

Sorry about your PM.. But look at the bright side -- Bill Clinton got reelected after all the bull came out on him. He just couldn't keep it in his pants....

Hugs BD

Hi Sanna,
I guess Finland is about to catch up with the U.S. and the U.K. in a hurry.  One thing you can do is don't spend your money on the tabloids and books that help others to profit from it all.  Then hope it goes away as quickly as possible.

Yup, wonderful indeed... ::)

Patti, you're absolutely right: as long as people buy those magazines the journalists and editors will keep on serving them "what they want". :-X

Now, as a media student and a journalist to be, I can understand how much some of my colleagues are loving all of this. This sort of scandal is, I suppose, exciting. As a journalist I could write about that, of course I could. But as a private person... I think it is just plain sad. Entertainment is entertainment, but it should be everything the media has to offer.

Elections are coming up in March, so we shall see what happends. What comes to political views I don't agree on all the issues the PM stands for and I didn't vote for his party in the last elections. My political opinion has not changed, although I have toyed with the idea of voting for him as a sympathy vote... ;;D

Anyway, one of the theories currently is that other major party paid PM ex so that she wrote that book and would help to bring him and the party down in the elections. Naturally we know the results in March, but I believe that the PM has nothing to worry about. He might not be PM after the election, but I bet that he'll renew his seat as a member of the parliament by landslide.

What comes to his ex... I don't she'll be leaving the limelight anytime soon. The rumor has it that she's dating another public figure. That's book no 2, then... ;) She wanted fame, now she's got it. I just hope that her two kids are strong enough to take all this... :-/

Hmm, now this is interesting twist: my mum, this traditionalist, emailed one of our biggest dailies and asked them NOT TO publish any more pieces about PMs ex.

When people like mum act, they are REALLY fed up. I don't think she has ever written any newspaper about anything before.

Tell your Mum good luck though I doubt if it will do much good.

You need to stop all American visitors and ban American TV if there is going to be any hope for ya ;)

BTW: I have been away. Is Anna Nicole still dead? ;;D

......Tim who hates and does not read or watch tabloid news

Welcome to the brave new world Sanna.

Here we turn on the news and get three cable news channels full of nothing but Anna Nicole Smith....all night long too. It's insane and I could care less.

Nothing like politicians to keep things lively.

So you are taping everytning of course.   ::)

Like Tanner said, your people should stop watching American news.  He got that idea from Brittany Spears.

The only thing we ever watch anymore is Frasier reruns.

Oh, and baseball. I'll watch any baseball game just about anytime.

No news, no football, no basketball. The TV just stays off most of the time now. Funny - in an age where there are more choices than ever, it seems there's nothing worthwhile from which to choose.

To be honest, I think the only thing mum planned to get out of her email is to simply state her opinion. Back in here the entertainment magazines and two dailies do far too well at the moment. But the public opinion can change things is enough of people agree. What I've read, most at the opinion websites want to have PM's ex committed! ;;D

Entertainment world would look pretty boring if that would happen across the board. Having said that, loads of people seem to be at rehab at the moment. ;)

Luckily for us, our TV networks do not have too much entertainment in the news section. One channel does have "Entertainment News", five times a week, but that program comes out around midnight- 1am in the morning. So Anna Nicole does not control our channels. Yet. ;;D

So, I suppose, we still have hope. :D

Ok, I'm not sure if should laugh or cry at this moment. I just read that several European companies have approached PM's ex's publisher - they want to buy the books rights! And then turn it into a documentary or a romantic comedy! [smiley=laugh.gif] :-X

Yeah, and her book will be translated into English, French and Swedish.

Oh, give me a break... ::)

I just hope that PM's ex gets reality check in some point and decides not to take this farce any further. I'm aware that to some folks out there any publicity is "good" publicity, but her 15 minutes are up.
