I'm so sorry Jackie.

Our pets are our family too, and our hearts break just as much when it's their time to pass. He was ill, and he's now at peace.  I hope that brings you some comfort in knowing this.

My heart goes out to you and Blake.  I know you'll miss  Rocky.

He will always live on in your hearts.
R.I.P. Rocky

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So very, very sad to hear about Rocky.  :'( We know you did all that you could for him and I'm sure Rocky knew that, too.

He was a very lucky pup to have such wonderful and caring owners.

Hugs to both of you.

Sorry to read of the loss of your beloved Rocky.  It's not easy to lose a pet, you did the right thing by stopping his pain.  What a regal animal he was.

May I Go

Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days and endless lonely nights?

I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond, and set my spirit free?

I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now to a warm and living light.

I want to go, I really do; it's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid, because I see your tears.

I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know,
That my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.

Thank you so for loving me. You know I love you too,
And that's why it's hard to say goodbye and end this life with you.

So hold me now just one more time and let me hear you say,
Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.        (by Susan A. Jackson)

Jackie & Blake,

I love you so much.    :'(

Jean

Jackie and Blake,

Please accept my deepest condolences. Your love for Rocky went beyond mere possession - you wanted what was best for him, even though it might not have been what was best for you.

Both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

It broke my heart reading this, cause I know how much you two love Rocky. I know all so well how hard it was on you both to let him go. It was the kindess thing ya'll could have done for him.

All dogs go to Heaven, so you both will see him again some day.

I wish I could hug your neck !
Love ya

Jackie and Blake I am so sorry to hear your sad news, but some beautiful things have been written here and I believe every one of them is true.

I hope that my sweetheart Jean won't mind, but I think that:

How lucky I am... to have known someone who was so hard to say goodbye too.

her sentiment fits this situation from both yours and Rocky's perspectives.

Hugz and condolences......Tim

Jacks, I am so sorry.  You are so blessed to have had him in your lives for as long as you did.  It's gutwrenching when they have to leave but he's out of his pain now.

He's up there playing with Mildred now though, probably chasing her around tree after tree and they're running together with big smiles on their faces.  Peace is his now and you made it possible for him to have a wonderful time here.  Thank you for being such wonderful parents to him.

Much love to you and Blake,

Mike, Margi, Barly and Hops   :'(

Well. I know how much you will miss Rocky but rest assured he will have a Clusterbuddy waiting for him at the bridge. Clusterpets have a special place put aside for us up here. I know all the good trash cans up here in doggie heaven and Rocky will be my new running buddy and I'll introduce him to all of my other clusterbuddy pets. I'll look after him for you.

Love
Mildred.

Jackie - I'm so very sorry for your loss.  I had to do the same thing about 2.5 years ago and it is never an easy thing.  http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/310.gif

I found this at that time and found some comfort in it and hope you can find the same ...

Just A Dog

Don't ever call him, "just a dog."
Who haven't the eyes to see
That I belong to him as much
As he belongs to me
God must have had His reasons
For making the likes of him
And I humbly hope with all my heart
...that I was one of them
The years have dulled his russet color
And his vision is getting dim
And he walks with a limp when the days are cold
Cause the dampness gets to him
He's not as young as he used to be
And his whiskers are frosted white
But he wags his tail as if to say
"You see, I'm still alright."
I cut his food in bite size chunks
And he gives me a toothless grin
Trusting in my love for him
Whatever shape he's in
He has accepted growing old
The way men cannot do
And I'm not ashamed to say he's taught
Me more than a thing or two
So, don't ever call him "just a dog"
Unless you are prepared
To match his steadfast loyalty
To care the way he's cared
For many the sad offenses
Committed in love's name
And how many times it takes a dog
...to put a man to shame!!!!

Jackie,
I'm so sorry for you and Blake. I understand how hard it is to lose an animal you love soo much, and Rocky was beautiful. Our Hawkeye left us 13 yrs ago. I still, to this day, can be reduced to tears when I see a Lhasa like he was.
He's there to greet Rocky, and I hope they are romping and playing and comforting each other in the loss of us, too!
Makes ya wonder, will life ever be the same??

As for me, well, I still have a 3-ring circus here, with Buddy-the Skunkchaser, Phantom, the deaf, Fire-eating cat, Camry, and Pepper. I hope you have someone to comfort you as well........
