Ya know as I agree the guy needs to suffer a thousand slow and very painful deaths. I have to wonder about parents who don't take every precaution from this happening. Take the f'n computer off of your kids...

There should also be chatroom stings which result in severe fines for parents who allow this carefree online flirting by their children. It's the responsibility of a parent to know what your child is doing. If it's impossible to watch them 24 hours a day... then don't let the computer be the babysitter.

Yep! I got that and I AGREE.

But I also think that kids should NOT be left to their own devices with something as potentially as dangerous as a PC.
It's like giving the keys of your car to an 11 year old kid and letting him/her go cross country on a little joy ride. I think parents who allow it... should take better precautions.

Televisions and computers should not take the place of a parent or guardian.

I was one of those who were abused. Repeatedly for years.

I used to think cutting it off would be a deterent. No. Kill him. There is no fuckin excuse for what is done to a child, either 8 or 14 or whatever age. No excuse and no mercy. Period.

I have watched all of those Dateline pieces they did. There are like 4 different stings. I really like what NBC is doing with this and I even gave $10 to Preverted Justice. Kudos to them.

Tony I do agree with the point you are making, the PC is far too dangerous a babysitter for MY kids. The only one I'll let play on there while I'm cooking dinner for instance is Jasper as he just places PC games froma CD anyway. The other two are monitored the whole time they are on it, both here and at their dad's. If I'm not with them they aren't on the PC. They are 11 and 12 and if they don't like it well tough! What worries me though is at school, they can use PC's during lunch hours etc and it isn't monitored and I think that's disgraceful. Both my kids help in the library at lunch times or have joined in with various activities but there are plenty of kids who sit there on MSN... scary.

I'm Not sure about England's Schools PC policys, Helen, but here, there is limited access to certain types of sites from school computers. As a matter of fact, CH.com is now one of the blocked sites due to the message board and some of the less than family friendly content. Dylan has tried to get here during his lunch or study halls, and cannot.

If a medical support site is blocked you can imagine what other ones are as well. Talk to the schools your kids attend and find out what their policys are.

I know the kids can access MSN - I was appalled and wrote a etter in about it. I think that may have been a glitch though rather than allowable as schools in general here are strict. The point is though, where there's a will there's a way and I can't tell you how many times I've been messaged by youngsters from this site (not yours!) when they were at school.
I freely admit to being a tough mum and probably over protective but I do know where my kids are and thats my sanity. The kid who used to babysit for me has a younger sister who was 13 at the time (2 years ago) when she was the subject of an attempted abduction. I think seeing it happen so close to home (1/4 of a mile from where I live) and to someone I know has scared me rigid.

I keep tabs electronicaly on what Meg and Dyl do online, so if I can't be here, I know exactly what where and how they go. Meg spends her time at Neo-Pets and Dylan at Deviant Art. He has so many different writing projects going right now it's almost unthinkable that he's actually pulling a B- Gpa.

Any normal person watching this dateline series can only be disgusted and concerned by the traffic these stings generate. Multiple predators often arrive at the same time. Repeat/registered sex offenders are regularly lured in. These crimes aren’t just facilitated by computers parents need to be vigilant at all times.

The current punishment for these and other sexual predators doesn't fit their crimes. Nationally - sentences average 12.8-years for violent sexual assaults/5-years time served. Sentences for non-violent sexual assaults (???), average 9.5-years/2.5-years time served. The foucs is on rehabilitation rather than punishment for a violent crime.

The justice system gives little if any consideration to the irreparable/life-altering damage suffered by victims. The death penalty is appropriate punishment for twisted units that get satisfaction from preying upon the vulnerable and defenseless.

Tony, I'm with you too. Trouble today is where are the parents, and they're too damned afraid to BE a parent. Your child will grow up one day and THEN you can be the "friend". Too many parents wanting to be "friends" BULLSHIT I say.

The worse part is, where is this loser gonna be later. Arrested always sounds good. But we all know they never stay there. Punishments just don't fit the crimes anymore.

I have seen most of these shows as well and it just amazes me, I don’t think the penalties they get when they get caught are near steep enough, I think something with a flag pole and a rope around the jewels would be more appropriate. They destroy a life when they do this, so as far as I am concerned they deserve to spend the rest of theirs behind bars. Go onto Megan’s web site and check your area and see how many live right around you, it will scare the crap out of you if you have kids. There is one just around the block from my house and a lot more within a mile of me and I have two daughters 8 and 17 needless to say they are not allowed to go play around the neighborhood we have a park down the street and the only way they get to go is with us, ok the 17 year old is to old for the park now but when she wasn’t she never went without a parent with her.
