Title: I need help... Post by Broken on Feb 9th, 2007, 6:06pm Very funny guys. I know its what you're all thinking. But seriously, I've got a wicked head cold that just won't go away. I've tried hot showers, Niquill, Dayquill, going to bed early, bundling up 'til I can't move, the whole 9 yards. Any one got any get well quick cures that I could borrow? Please help me out cause I'm going nuts here. Thanks. Broken |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by Kevin_M on Feb 9th, 2007, 6:14pm I got those a couple times when around your age. Sorry, no advice, I do remember them lasting for me too. I think I remember wearing a hat in winter more often after that though, mom advice. |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by Aragosta on Feb 9th, 2007, 6:40pm I am about 4 days past the worst of mine. I used my Neti Pot with salt water a few times at the peak... felt really nice, but I cannot say if it got me over it any faster. |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by tanner on Feb 9th, 2007, 6:44pm I know that this sounds like an "old wives tale" but if you google it you will find it to be more then that. Chicken Soup, now to be honest we usually do more of a stew version but the key ingredients are the same. Chicken when cooked releases an enzyme among other things with a very long history in herbal medicine. You want to cook the chicken in a stew or soup so that you can slow cook it and keep it covered to retain most of the nutritional value. Carrots for their obvious vitamins need to be in there. Garlic, as much as you (and those around you) can stand is a must. Celery for it's natural anti inflammatory properties, peas because they are just plain good for you. I also add green beans, corn, potatoes (for linda) and zucchini or summer squash. I happen to be making a batch as we speak and besides what is mentioned above I have added diced tomato's, onions (same good stuff in it as garlic just a lot less), and one very good thick cut rib-eye steak for extra protein and because I am a weird cook! I use fresh herbs like parsley, basil (a pinch) celery seed and thyme and I make sure to keep the sodium level low by using reduced sodium broth. (mine actually has none in it because I had some that I made myself. I have become an avid label reader when shopping for reasons regarding Lin that I will tell you all about after her follow-up with some Doc's on Mon. Hope you are feeling better very soon and keep in mind that any natural way to keep your sinus's draining is key to getting over "head colds". Sending "get well" vibes your way :)......Tim |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by Cathi04 on Feb 9th, 2007, 8:02pm AHA! I can never figure out what is gonna be the perfect way out of a nasty cold, but ONE thing I can tell you........milk products tend to cause more congestion. They produce more mucus! You are sooo much better off with lots of hot tea, or, if you don't care for that, try hot juices, or, even hot kool-aid in your fave flavor! Really, please try this, you have nothing to lose but the congestion! Please, lose the hot chocolate for now! Feell better soon! cathi |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by Wilbur on Feb 9th, 2007, 8:12pm Next time, take Airborne at the first inkling you're getting sick. I was skeptical myself, but it really does help the entire thing move faster. Right now, try a little Vicks Vapo-rub dabbed inside your nose, and rub a little on your upper chest. And homemade chicken soup. Sometimes gramma's remedies are the best. |

Title: Re: I need help... Post by Broken on Feb 10th, 2007, 8:12pm I haven't been. I'm thinking about moving my bed though because its right next to the wall which is always freezing. I'm feeling much better though after a 3 hour nap, tons of meds, and eating my chicken and veggies like Tanner said. Thanks again guys! Will keep you updated! Broken |
