High today in Madison, Wisconsin.... -4 degrees... Oh baby it is cold!  Got to go to class this morning when it was -16 with a wind chill of -33.  Oh yes...I do love this weather (insert sarcasm here).  Brrrrrrr!!!!

I'm sure it's pretty cold with you too...but we college folk get to walk to classes (but not uphill both ways...thank GOODNESS!)  ;;D

It helps that I have a little more body fat between me and the elements.

-14 at the old homestead this morning. Both Toyotas fired up without even a hiccup.

Just think how warm tomorrow's high of +8 is going to feel. By the time it hits +32, there'll be people dancing around their yards nekkid, it'll feel so warm.

It's all a matter of perspective. I lost the lacquer finish on my 1980 MusicMan StingRay to the -26 / -80 windchill weather of January, 1982. So in my mind, this ain't so bad.

Beeyul - I enjoyed them, too. But I can assure you, I had nothing to do with them. We usually come up with some pretty funny commercials.

Your cars may have started but mine won't.  The cold has also knocked out the phones at work, so I had to email my boss to let her know that the car still isn't starting.

I did pop open the hood and am letting the sun shine down on the black insides to maybe absorb some heat that way.  It's worth a shot anyway.

Current conditions.

It is your schools fault Teresa.  All the schools in the region closed including Madison public schools which never close.  Why the colleges didn't close will remain a mystery.  I would boycott classes today.

I don't know, Karla - there are still a number of school districts open in the greater MKE area, my son's included.

I can see little kids (the ones who are too young to recognize the signs of frostbite) staying home from school, but older kids and adults know how to dress against the elements. They should also be wise enough to know that you don't stay out in this for very long or you risk getting hurt.

I'm with you on this: if the walk to class is long and you don't have adequate clothing to counter it, stay home. No big whoop. Hell, I stayed home for several weeks in 1980 in support of the Teaching Assistants' strike - weather had nothing to do with it. I made it out of college with honors. One or two days is not a big deal.

I have been working on my car in the drivway for the last 3 days replacing the front struts.  Hi wind today with temps around 5 deg.  It is a game of how fast can you get nuts and bolts on before your hands freeze.  Gloves are useless when wrenching.  I'd give my right nut for a nice heated garage ;;D

Anybody that likes this weather is crazy!

I was too....but that's because I didn't leave my house!  Oh, and I'm not the type to miss class because of some cold.  We had a blizzard last year, classes didn't get cancelled for the UW (pretty much the ONLY thing left open in Wisconsin at that point) and I still went to class.  Gotta go to class to become edumacated!

Now, now Jeff.  We don't want to seem uncaring to the people who choose to live in the frozen tundra.  Actually it was 73 degrees here yesterday and I'll bet you had to put on at least.... a long sleeved t-shirt.    ;;D

 Now to Wisconsin-ites...question?

How will this affect  cheese production?

Those of us in the know know those aren't called nipples.

They're teats. And I suppose they do get a little hard.

I wonder if the bull's huevos/cojones get sucked up into his throat when it's this cold, as if he had been swimming?

We should actually be asking you, Linda. California has surpassed Wisconsin in milk production (well, in quantity, not quality).

Cows have to be milked twice a day every day. That's why dairy farming sucks so bad (ooo, poor choice of words) - no vacations at all.

I knew that Wilbur.  I so wish I could find (on-line) all the California cheese commercials to post here.   They are hilarious.

One has a small calf talking to Grandma about :

"how was it where you came from Grandma?  In a dream over Grandmas head comes a sight of intense storms where she is being forced into the wind and snow drifts...then Grandma comes back to reality of the Califonia green grass, sunshine,  and pretty little wildflowers in California.

On remembering.....Grandma just shudders.

I think quality depends on how happy the cow is.   Don't you?

Most dairy farms don't graze herds unless the weather is nice . . .so Bossy and Elsie stayed in a nice heated barn today with  their nipples teats nice and warm . . . . .

Jeff, you never fail to put a smile on my face when I need it most. Thanks my friend if you are half as funny in person I'm not sure I can bear meeting you!!!

Oh, and the left coast comment was not intended politically, it's just a phrase I picked up on when I lived out there and all my Midwestern family referred to me that way.

All of you folks on this thread are a huge umbrella for me cuz it just keeps pouring on my parade!

Love, hugz or bitch slaps.... whatever you prefer ;;D....Tim

OMG - LMAO as well!

"Quality," "Happy," and "Cow" in the same phrase - I'm just sitting here LMAO and trying to get my head around that one!

Now that I think about it, "happiness" for a cow might equate to living on a farm that receives government subsidies to produce milk. Or, "happiness" for a cow might just be being milked regularly so your udder doesn't become distended and infected. Maybe just two square meals and a warm place to sleep. And stop making me pregnant so I can give this milk bag a rest.
