"The three-day long US operation against insurgents in Najaf ended on Wednesday with more than 400 dead and 600 insurgents captured."

And here is what the troops have to say to you!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyqk1LsCDBQ

Side note: Iraq troops had a major hand in this fight, it looks like these fuckers are stepping up so we can start to step down.

NBC Nightly News story on US troops in Iraq, who are frustrated by American criticism of the Iraq war:

"If they're gonna support us, support us all the way."

"[The Apache Company] worries their country may be abandoning the mission they died for."

Its a fucking shame that these guys feel like this while bullets and bombs are going off around them and IN them!!!

OK - that video has 2 or 3, and probably represents more. But what about the 1200+ active duty personel that have signed a petition to Congress calling for a withdraw (http://www.appealforredress.org/)?

I think it's great that 400 Baathist Salafi Shiite wingnuts were killed to prevent them from carrying out their plan of kidnapping and killing Grand Ayatollah Sistani. But not even the US Military believes the propaganda that this was an example of the Iraqis 'standing up so we can stand down.'  Only President Bush and Jonny believe that hooey.

Quote:
Iraqi forces were surprised and nearly overwhelmed by the ferocity of an obscure renegade militia in a weekend battle near the holy city of Najaf and needed far more help from American forces than previously disclosed, American and Iraqi officials said Monday.

They said American ground troops — and not just air support as reported Sunday — were mobilized to help the Iraqi soldiers, who appeared to have dangerously underestimated the strength of the militia, which calls itself the Soldiers of Heaven and had amassed hundreds of heavily armed fighters.

...

The Iraqis initially sent a battalion from their Eighth Army Division, along with police forces, but they were quickly overwhelmed, according to an Iraqi commander at the scene. The battalion began to retreat but was soon surrounded and pinned down, and had to call in American air support to keep the enemy from overrunning its position.

American Apache attack helicopters and F-16s, as well as British fighter jets, flew low over the farms where the enemy had set up its encampments and attacked, dropping 500-pound bombs on the encampments. The Iraqi forces were still unable to advance, and they called in support from both an elite Iraqi unit known as the Scorpion Brigade, which is based to the north in Hilla, and from American ground troops.

Around noon, elements of the American Fourth Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division were dispatched from near Baghdad.

After an American helicopter was shot down at 1:30 p.m., some of those soldiers helped secure the crash site and recover the bodies of the two American soldiers killed in the crash, according to a statement by the American military. Others joined in the effort to combat the renegade militia, the statement said.

Why dont you ask Ree how her boys feel about the media bagging on them.

1200 out of 150,000?

Leave it to you to call the soldiers pusses if you disagree with their politics.  The number is larger than 1200 - some careerists see it as a bad move, the realists see it as taking a stand that won't change anything.

You are out of touch, and want to be out of touch, because reality doesn't suit your agenda.  A majority of the troops have repeatedly indicated they are looking forward to a swift redeployment stateside:

Released: February 28, 2006

U.S. Troops in Iraq: 72% Say End War in 2006

   * Le Moyne College/Zogby Poll shows just one in five troops want to heed Bush call to stay “as long as they are needed”
   * While 58% say mission is clear, 42% say U.S. role is hazy
   * Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown
   * Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks
   * Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation
   * Plurality of troops pleased with their armor and equipment

...

different branches had quite different sentiments on the question, the poll shows. While 89% of reserves and 82% of those in the National Guard said the U.S. should leave Iraq within a year, 58% of Marines think so. Seven in ten of those in the regular Army thought the U.S. should leave Iraq in the next year. Moreover, about three-quarters of those in National Guard and Reserve units favor withdrawal within six months, just 15% of Marines felt that way. About half of those in the regular Army favored withdrawal from Iraq in the next six months.

But you don't give a shit about the cost in blood - you get your jollies from the snuff videos out there.

I've got relatives in the U.S. Army stationed in Iraq now. They are not as close to me as Ree is to her sons, but FUCK YOU if you think that you speak for all the servicemen and their families. You don't.

You know, I have to say that if you're going to get so heated over political threads then stay out of them.

It's not rocket science!

If you are going to get so riled that you even consider deleting your profile on a CLUSTER HEADACHE forum because of someone else's political opinion, cutting yourself off from support and understanding - it beggar's belief.

I have to wonder what would happen in a bar if you get your knickers in a knot like this on the flippin' internet.

Post by JeffB on Feb 2nd, 2007, 6:52pm
My boss just sent this to me, thought I'd pass it along.

Last week, while traveling to Chicago on
business, I noticed a Marine sergeant traveling with a
folded flag, but did not put two and two together.

After we boarded our flight, I turned to the sergeant,
who'd  been invited to sit in First Class (across from
me), and inquired if he was heading home.

No, he responded.

Heading out I asked?

No. I'm escorting a soldier home.

Going to pick him up?

No. He is with me right now. He was killed in Iraq.
I'm taking him home to his family.

The realization of what he had been asked to do hit
me like a punch to the gut. It was an honor for him.
He told me that, although he didn't know the
soldier, he had delivered the news of his
passing to the soldier's family and felt as if he knew them
after many conversations in so few days . I
turned back to him, extended my hand, and said, Thank you.
Thank you for doing what you do so my family and
I can do what we do.

Upon landing in Chicago the pilot stopped short of
the gate and made the following announcement over the intercom.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to note that
we have had the honor of having Sergeant Steeley of
the United States Marine Corps join us on this flight.
He is escorting a fallen comrade back home to
his family. I ask that you please remain in your
seats when we open the forward door to allow Sergeant
Steeley to deplane and receive his fellow soldier.
We will then turn off the seat belt sign."

Without a sound, all went as requested. I
noticed the sergeant saluting the casket as it was
brought off the plane, and his action made me realize
that I am proud to be an American.

So here's a public Thank You to our military Men
and Women for what you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays

Very soon, you will see a great many people
wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who
support our troops used to be called the "silent majority."

We are no longer silent, and are voicing our
love for God, country and home in record breaking
numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our
friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority
of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing
solidarity and support for our troops with
dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues
each and every Friday until the troops all come home,
sending a deafening message that ... every red-blooded
American who supports our men and women afar,
will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the
United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a
homecoming football game in the bleachers. If
every one of us who loves this country will share this
with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and
family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and
it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority
is on their side more than ever, certainly more
than the media lets on.
