Title: Re: dowloader trojan...help! Post by Mattrf on Jan 22nd, 2007, 3:35pm Restart your system and when you first see the bios screen pop up on the screen start tapping the F8 key until you get a menu for going into Safe Mode. Select Safe Mode with Networking, then once your system is back up go to www.Trendmicro.com and run there free virus scan and hopfuly it will be able to remove it. Safe mode should stop the virus from loading in memory and enable the virus program to get rid of it. I will do a little more looking on this one but this is a good start. Matt |

Title: Re: dowloader trojan...help! Post by Charlie on Jan 22nd, 2007, 3:56pm Thanks guys. I think I got it though. This worked: http://www.theeldergeek.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t15946.html Beats me why but it may have enabled the other? Whatever it did, my puter looks pretty clean. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/pc.gif There is some really nasty shit out there. Glad I know you clowns. I think you can be just as "nasty." http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/punish.gif http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/heehee.gif I have to wonder if I was just plain lucky to have not gotten in more trouble... even using this tool.... Title: Re: dowloader trojan...help! Post by Mattrf on Jan 22nd, 2007, 4:20pm I have been in computers for 20 + years now and it gets worse every month now. A software firewall is a must backed by a hardware one if you can and you have to have antivirus and a lot of people have it on the PC when they get it not knowing it is a trial copy and expires, and then they don’t realize that they are not protected at all. Scary people very scary, you need to open your virus program weekly and make sure it is updating, if you have Symantec you can go to File in the program and then scheduled updates and tell it to update daily to make sure you always have the latest and greatest protection. And don’t forget to run at least three separate spyware programs as well and run scans at least monthly for spyware. So much for the days of not needing to know much about computers to use one. Now I want everyone to practice safe computing, hear me? Matt [smiley=damncomputer.gif] |

Title: Re: dowloader trojan...help! Post by Charlie on Jan 22nd, 2007, 4:32pm Good advice. My server got me connected with AVG but now it's going to cost. I need something else. I had Symantec for a time. I had some trouble with Norton. Someday when things ease up for me, I'll subscribe to something. On the money front, I found that the anti-convulsant that I take costs something like $330 for 60 days or so. It's Lamictal which is GSK. I have a Bridges form to send in through an advocate (MD/Pharmacist) and GSK will pay for it for a year. Whew. Charlie http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/whew.gif |

I have this thing Helen but it's always "out of date" no matter how often I update. It identifies stuff anyway. I'm threatened every day that I will have to ante up some time soon. Also: Thanks Matt. You look good Helen. http://www.netsync.net/users/charlies/gifs/hair pull.gif Charlie |

Title: Re: dowloader trojan...help! Post by PL259 on Jan 22nd, 2007, 7:40pm The AVG subscription is only good for about 14 months then you re-register. I run AVG, Spywareblaster (in the background) Microsoft Defender, and Adaware, and haven't had problems in months. Good luck! Hackers always find new ways to screw you up. |
