Title: Lidocaine drops? Update Post by Mattrf on Jan 11th, 2007, 11:57am Not sure if it would help CH or not but wanted to share. My SUNCT ramped up last week and got really bad, now remember I get a constant HA that does not go away. I went to the doctor on Monday and he prescribed me Lidocaine 4% drops, I put two drops up each side of my nose while on my back and have to lie like that for 15 minutes to let it soak in. For the first time in over a year I was actually PF and I mean 100% PF, it was incredible, I had forgotten what it felt like to be PF. Now I can only use it three times in a day and it only lasts for about 4 hours but it does work for me. I am going in this Monday and getting the same stuff through an IV for about four hours in the hopes that it will brake my cycle but even if it doesn’t I finally have a weapon that works on the monster, just hope it keeps working. I am not sure if this would work on CH or not, has anyone ever had this stuff and tried it for CH? I want to thank everyone for there support over the last few weeks especially Cyn (Cynjeep89) who is my support angle and has helped me so much in the last few weeks. Matt ;;D |

Did you do it while on your back with your head tilted back and stay that way for 15 minutes? The doctor told me it was very important to do this so the Lidocaine would be in the right spot and have time to soak through the membrane. Matt |

Title: Re: Lidocaine drops? Post by LeeS on Jan 11th, 2007, 12:47pm Hi Matt – glad you found some relief with it :) PG still has some faith in lignocaine for CH: in liquid form it can be given as either nose drops or nasal spray, and as you say, deep in the nostril on the painful side. This can bring mild to moderate relief in some CH sufferers though only a few experience complete pain relief. This drug, therefore, is very rarely useful on its own but can be helpful when taken with other preventative and abortive drugs (allegedly - I've never tried it myself). All the best with the IV version. -Lee |

Title: Re: Lidocaine drops? Post by DonnaHar on Jan 11th, 2007, 12:53pm My son tried Lidocaine drops without success.......but the doc didn't tell him to lay down and let it soak in. That is probably the secret, as I don't remember any one else who used it saying that they waited either. I will be sure to pass this on.....thank you! |

Title: Re: Lidocaine drops? Post by Mattrf on Jan 11th, 2007, 1:15pm I didn’t have much hope in it being helpful for CH since SUNCT does not respond to CH medications or preventatives, I would assume that the opposite is also true but wanted to pass it on. Matt |

Title: Re: Lidocaine drops? Post by Guiseppi on Jan 11th, 2007, 1:25pm Always worth a try to pass stuff on, keep it coming!! I tried Lidocain about 20 years ago. It would rack it down 2-3 clicks on the KIP scale but it usually caused me to barf and left me feeling crummy. Fortunately I found more succesful treatments that didn't have the side affects. Hope life's treating you well! Guiseppi |

Title: Re: Lidocaine drops? Update Post by Mattrf on Jan 16th, 2007, 7:00pm Well I went yesterday and had the IV treatment with Lidocaine for my SUNCT, well it made my headache go away right off the bat then after about an hour and a half the tightness in the left side of my face that has been there from the beginning went away and for the first time in over a year both sides of my face felt the same and pain free. Then they turned off the IV and within five minutes the tightness came back letting me know that this treatment did not brake my cycle and that the monster was not done with me just yet. I can’t tell you what a let down that was for me and my wife, we tried not to get our hopes up but guess we did because it hit us both very hard that it did not work. I love my doctor though he refuses to give up, He is putting me on a pill form and hope once we ramp up that maybe we will get the same results but lasting so again back to hoping. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Matt |
